2017 Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings

Heading into Week 4, we were starting to feel good about things. We thought we had this whole Fantasy Football thing figured out for the 2017 season. Well, the Fantasy Football Gods had a different idea. They must have been bored and decided to hand us a bunch of major injuries.

The biggest being Dalvin Cook as he is now out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Unfortunate as he really was producing like a RB1 this season.

the Running back injuries did not stop there though. Ty Montgomery was knocked out of Thursday nights game with broken ribs and even his backup Jamaal Williams is out. More info on them below, but Aaron Jones could be in for an increased workload this week. Teammate Davante Adams took a brutal hit late in the game and was knocked out, literally.

Chris Carson was another RB who bit the dust. He suffered a broken leg and a high ankle sprain and had to get surgery. Now we are back to dealing with Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls.

Quarterbacks were not left out on the fun this week. Derek Carr has a fractured back and is out 2-6 weeks. Marcus Mariota has a hamstring injury and is listed as day-to-day for now.

Just to add to the fun of having a slew of major injuries, the Bye weeks begin in Week 5. This week we have New Orleans, Washington, Atlanta and Denver. Some pretty high powered offenses all sitting down this week.

2017 Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings

Each week I will be giving some notes for things you will want to keep an eye on as the week progresses. It will be mostly injury related, but anything that could affect the rankings, that we know about, will be mentioned. Then you can come back and review the rankings as lineup lock get closer.

  • Ty Montgomery is listed as day to day. However, I would be shocked if he played. (
  • Davante Adams is week to week with a concussion and I would be surprised if he played as well. (active today)
  • Jack Doyle is in the concussion protocol. (inactive)
  • Chargers WR Mike Williams might return this week. Not relying on him in redraft leagues yet, but he is somebody to keep an eye on. (inactive)
  • Matt Forte is still dealing with turf toe. Elijah McGuire and Bilal Powell stepped up and played very well last week, so there may be no rush to get him back. (inactive)
  • Michael Crabtree may return this week, but it is unknown with his chest injury. Even if he does return E.J. Manuel does not make me excited about any of the Oakland receivers. (active)
  • C.J. Prosise is likely to play this week. This should render J.D. McKissic useless in all fantasy leagues. (Prosise inactive)
  • Doug Martin is returning off suspension. The coaching staff won’t commit to him playing or how much yet, making him a risky start on Thursday.
  • Jordan Matthews is out for at least a month after getting surgery on his thumb.
  • Tyler Eifert is still dealing with his back injury. The way Tyler Kroft played last week, there may be no rush to get him back on the field.
