2018 Fantasy Football Week 14 Injury Impact

Week 14 was a football watchers dream. Nine out of fourteen games were decided by less than seven points. Oh yeah and did I mention the wild finishes?!?!

From the Miami Miracle to the tipped pass caught by Amari Cooper in overtime to give the Cowboys the win. Week 14  provided so much enjoyment. No matter if your fantasy team or your favorite NFL team isn’t in contention for the playoffs, Week 14 was fun.

The final week of your regular season or the first week of your playoffs is  coming to an end. At this point fantasy rosters are thinning. This season has just brought so many injuries to key players. I will highlight some of these players who suffered injuries in Week 14 and their injury outlook for the rest of the season. Along with how you should respond to these injuries.

Lesean McCoy, RB, Buffalo Bills

McCoy suffered a hamstring injury early in Sunday’s game. He was originally ruled questionable to return but was later downgraded to out. Man, the disappointing season just continues for McCoy.

He re-aggravated his hamstring yet again. In the last three games he has a combined 17 points. He is very inconsistent, yet he is still being started in over 50% of ESPN leagues. For that reason, NOW is the time to move on from McCoy.

I cannot see him helping your team in any way in the playoffs. He is constantly dealing with injuries and even when healthy, his performances are inconsistent. In conclusion, my advice is to keep McCoy out of your lineup for the remainder of the playoffs.

Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins

Injuries continue to limit Jordan Reed. This week it was a foot injury. He sprained his foot in the first quarter of Sunday’s game. Vernon Davis filled in his absence. Davis went for 31 yards on four catches.

Reed’s injury will be re-evaluated and reported on sometime Monday. Reed is another guy who I feel is being overvalued and over started. Especially with the Redskins alternating between Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson at quarterback.

As stated early, more will come out about Reed’s injury on Monday. Reed is a guy who doesn’t provide you much consistency for the playoffs. For that reason, I would think about considering a waiver option, depending on who is available in your league.

Corey Clement, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Clement suffered a nasty knee injury against the Cowboys. The injury appeared to be major and he did not return to the game. He rushed one time for negative four yards in the game.

My thought is is that Clement will be held out the remainder of the season. His injury will likely result in more opportunities for other Eagles running backs. Although, it is not certain who this injury will impact the most.

As it is now, it appears the Eagles will continue to use a running back by committee. For example, Adams will get the bulk of the rushes and Sproles will serve as the receiving back. This injury doesn’t have major fantasy implications. That is just because of the uncertainty and inconsistency of the Philadelphia backfield.

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Big Ben suffered a rib injury in Sunday’s loss. He suffered this injury at the end of the second quarter. Roethlisberger returned about halfway through the fourth quarter.

He said after the game that he expects to play next week. Similarly, unless he suffers setbacks I believe that he will play.

Not much to see here . . . he should play next week. The thing I like about him in the fantasy playoffs is that his team is needs to win out to clinch their division. And this means that he actually has something to play for.

Other Notable Injuries

Tyreek Hill, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

Hill suffered a heel injury, however he later returned to the game and went on to catch some big catches down the stretch. Therefore, I don’t expect him to miss any time.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Jackson suffered an ankle injury in overtime. He missed the final two plays of the game. The x-rays on his ankle came back negative. Jackson should be fine, however, Joe Flacco is healthy now and will likely start or split time with Jackson.

Jonnu Smith, TE, Tennessee Titans

Smith suffered a season ending MCL injury on TNF. This is a major blow to the Titans, however this injury has limited fantasy impact.
