2018 MLB Trade Deadline Recap

on

The MLB non-waiver trade deadline has passed and Bryce Harper is still on the Washington Nationals roster.

Over the past two weeks, we have seen Manny Machado traded to the Dodgers, read our analysis of that trade, Cole Hamels traded to the Cubs, J.A. Happ traded to the Yankees, Mike Moustakas traded to the Brewers, Eduardo Escobar traded to the Diamondbacks, Asdrubal Cabrera traded to the Phillies and countless relief pitchers change teams.

Last night we saw Ian Kinser get traded to the Red Sox, Adam Duvall get traded to the Braves for Matt Wisler, Lucas Sims and Preston Tucker, the Yankees swap Tyler Austin for Lance Lynn and the Mariners add Zach Duke and Adam Warren!

We also witnessed the Blue Jays rid themselves of Roberto Osuna, having to take on Ken Giles to do so.

2018 MLB Trade Deadline Recap

Rays Trade Chris Archer to Pirates

Archer gives the Pirates pitching staff a much-needed boost, joining Jameson Taillon at the top of the rotation. Pittsburgh is currently 3.5 games out of the 2nd wildcard spot in the National League. They trail the Cubs by 7 games in the National League Central division.

The Pirates will send Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows to the Rays for Archer. Glasnow immediately moves into the starting rotation for Tampa Bay. Meadows joins a crowded outfield with newly acquired Tommy Pham, Kevin Kiermaier and Mallex Smith.

Cardinals Trade Tommy Pham to Rays

As mentioned above, the Rays OF is a crowded place but Pham is sure to have a spot in the lineup every night and not part of a platoon.

This move opens up playing time for Harrison Bader and Tyler O’Neil in the Cardinals OF.

Twins Trade Brian Dozier to Dodgers

The Dodgers have parted with Luke Raley and Devin Smeltzer to acquire Dozier. Logan Forsythe was also traded and should play 2B every day for the Twins.

Orioles Trade Jonathan Schoop to Brewers

With Travis Shaw having moved from 3B to 2B to accommodate Moustakas, it looks like one of these three will have to play SS now!

Jonathan Villar heads to Baltimore and could see regular ABs again. Jean Carmona and Luis Ortiz were also traded to the Orioles.

Orioles Trade Kevin Gausman to Braves

I guess this means rookie Kolby Allard, making his MLB debut tonight, is not up for a long stay in the Braves rotation.

Atlanta will send Jean Carlos Encarnacion, Brett Cumberland, Evan Phillips, and Bruce Zimmermann to Baltimore.

Rays Trade Wilson Ramos to Phillies

Jorge Alfaro has caught 74 games for the first place Phillies. Ramos is still on the disabled list with a hamstring injury but is a huge upgrade offensively for Philly.

Other Notable Trades:

The Orioles saved somewhere between 30 and 35 million via trades!
