2018 NFL DFS Week 17 Picks: Fantasy Football’s Final Frontier

For those degenerates, addicted to NFL DFS, willing to try and navigate the Week 17 waters, welcome back.

Obviously, the biggest question we have to ask ourselves is – who is even going to play?

The teams left with something to play for are:

The Saints and Cowboys are locked into their seed, win or lose. Both coaches, however, are reportedly going to be playing their starters.

For every other team playing, it is anybody’s guess who is playing.

Be sure to take all of this into account when picking your players this week.

The top picks

Tom Brady vs New York Jets

DraftKings 6000
FanDuel 7600

Brady has seen both reduced output and at times a reduced role this season. But if there was ever a time to bet on Brady it would be against the Jets.

The Jets have looked very good, at least on offense lately and are likely playing to solidify Todd Bowles job for next year. But on defense, they have been torn up in recent weeks by Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, and Josh Allen.

Nick Foles @ Washington Redskins

I’m not sure what it is about Nick Foles but the entire team looks different with him under center. That angry underdog vibe has returned to the team and Foles needs one more win to get into the playoffs.

In addition to the various weapons around him being good enough to beat most teams, the Redskins suffered a major loss this week. Their star safety DJ Swearinger, an otherwise lone bright spot in the secondary was cut this week.

Whether or not the Redskins come to play, there is a chance the Eagles just drop the hammer and try to show the league what they are capable of one last time before the playoffs.

The top picks

Chris Carson vs Arizona Cardinals

DraftKings 6500
FanDuel 6400

Carson has shown up in a big way lately. He also has the added benefit of playing the Cardinals who have been among the best teams to pick on this season.

Pete Caroll has not been known to rest people in situations like this. But when Carson has had limited touches before he still has done well. So despite his high price tag, Carson should be started fairly often because his floor and ceiling are very desirable (especially this week).

C.J. Anderson vs San Francisco 49ers

DK 5400
FD 6200

Anderson proved last week that he still had gas in the tank. 167 and a score might be his absolute ceiling, Behind that offensive line and with Sean Mcvay calling the shots his floor is very high.

And while the Rams are in a must-win situation to hold onto their bye week, Gurley has yet to practice this week which is probably best for the Rams long term. I expect Gurley to get one more week of rest and Anderson to have one more chance to show off his ability before playoffs start.

Gus Edwards vs Cleveland Browns

DK 4400
FD 6500

The Browns have not done well lately against running backs. But this is a run-heavy team that can still surprise you in the passing game.

Edwards should find room to run in the trenches this week in a must-win game for the Ravens. He has been held under 82 yards only once in the last 6 games and is just a rushing TD away from meaningful points.

Brian Hill @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

DK 3900
FD 5300

The Falcons might rest their starters but even if they go all in Tevin Coleman might not play. For that purpose, Brian Hill might be the best value of the week.

The worst case scenario is he’s in a full strength shootout with two high scoring offenses and bad defenses. The best case scenario is he plays the role crash test dummy for some backup linebackers if Tampa clears the bench. Either way, I’m trying to get Hill in lineups everywhere.

Wide Receivers

The top picks

Robert Woods vs San Francisco 49ers

DraftKings 6900
FanDuel 7600

Wide receivers have been banged up pretty bad lately. For that reason, I recommend spending some extra money on some studs with something to play for.

In comes Robert Woods, the shining star of this receiver core. Brandon Cooks usually takes top coverage leaving Woods as the go-to guy. Theres really not much I need to say to sell you on Woods but this is a solid matchup for him and they should lean on him as heavily, as usual, this week.

Jordy Nelson @ Kansas City Chiefs

DK 4900
FD 5200

Nelson had another solid day against the Broncos last week. Nelson has proven to be reliable week in and week out and once again finds himself in a position to score some big points.

Last time he played KC nelson had 10 catches for 97 yards. There is no reason that if he plays he shouldn’t be expected to match that production again and be a WR1 if he manages to find the end zone this time around.

Jarred Cook has been limited in practice which means that there could be a surge in targets to go around.

Zay Jones vs Miami Dolphins

DK 4000
FD 5300

Zay Jones was quiet for a two-week stretch while Robert Foster took over things as the WR1 for the team. But with his 5-67-1 stat line last week, it appears he is back to his position of relevance.

Miami has played terribly in the cold and only won a single road game. So while Buffalo’s run game is in question, the receivers should be just fine. Jones and Foster should both be solid options with Xavien Howard out, and it’s basically a crap shoot as to which one put up the best numbers.

Tight Ends

The top picks

Vance McDonald vs Cincinnati Bengals

DraftKings 4200
FanDuel 5600

McDonald is as always, one big play away from being a top 5 tight end. Cincinnati has been bad all year against all positions, but they have particularly bad against tight ends.

With McDonald like most TEs, you are basically just hoping for a blown coverage or a goal line touchdown to separate himself from the pack.

Chris Herndon @ New England Patriots

DK 3400
FD 5800
The Jets are hurting going into this game. They are likely playing for their coaches job and Stephon Gilmore makes Robby Anderson a dangerous play this week.

As a result, Herndon should see plenty of targets this week. Darnold has looked great lately and the Patriots have struggled immensely against quarterbacks who can extend the pocket. So I’m expecting Herndon to have a great stat line as the check down option.

Herndon is the cheaper tight end I’m targeting this week over any other.
