2018 NFL DFS Week 2 Picks

on

Will the NFL DFS Week 2 main slate feature a three touchdown player like Alvin Kamara in Week 1 or A.J. Green on Thursday Night Football?

The Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers have the highest projected points scored in Week 2 at 29.

Below I highlight players at the QB/RB/WR/TE positions at different price points that I think are solid building blocks to creating winning lineups.

Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes @ Steelers

$7500 FanDuel  Р18.07 projection
$6100 DraftKings – 19.21

Andy Reid tailor-made an offense to exploit his QB’s strengths. Not to mention the fact that Tyreek Hill is an unstoppable monster. While week to week production for Hill may vary, Mahomes put to rest any uncertainty about his ability last week. In what is likely to be a shootout against an elite (while playing at home) Steelers offense, Mahomes is a pick I would confidently make.

Jimmy Garoppolo vs Lions

$7300 FD – 17.55
$6000 DK – 18.41

Jimmy G faced the second best defense in the NFL in his week one matchup against the Vikings and failed to produce. Expectations for Garoppolo are much higher as he now faces a defense that recently failed to slow down Sam Darnold and the Jets. Look for Garoppolo to get the steam back in his hype trains engine in this matchup.

Case Keenum vs Raiders

$6700 FD – 16.65
$6300 DK – 18.07

Two undeniable things we learned last week, Keenum is not perfect but he gets it done and Gruden’s defense has some serious work to get done. Keenum will see very limited resistance this week on his way to a likely QB2 performance. He is a great option for a team on a budget.

Running Backs

Melvin Gordon @ Bills

$8200 FanDuel – 17.80 projection
$7400 DraftKings – 20.29

You need at least one big name to fill out your team and Gordon is shaping up to be a must-start. The Bills gave up rushing touchdowns to all three Ravens running backs last week and seem likely to have an equally bad game this week. While the passing attack may be scripted out early Gordon should have all the volume he can handle this week. This is the player to set your lineup around this week.

Jay Ajayi @ Buccaneers

$8200 FD – 17.80
$6300 DK – 14.06

Tampa got shredded last week, yes by Alvin Kamara, but they still got shredded. The Eagles defense is far superior to the saints, even the higher expectations we had for them. So I expect this to be a game where run games don’t get scripted out too early. Look for Ajayi to be a very solid slightly cheaper option.

Adrian Peterson vs Colts

$6700 FD – 11.59
$5500 DK – 12.41

All Day really was running all day. He has sufficient volume and a decent matchup and so he seems to be a solid option. I’m not expecting a full-blown repeat of his week one performance, but there is touchdown upside and the Colts defense scares nobody.

Alfred Morris vs Lions

$5800 FD – 8.80
$3600 DK – 9.48

I fully expect Matt Patricia and his Lions to eventually figure out how to play football again. But I don’t expect it this week. So I feel comfortable playing pretty much all the 49ers particularly the backfield.

Injury Update
Devonta Freeman has been ruled OUT for the Falcons against the Panthers. Tevin Coleman will see an increased workload, but has a tough matchup against the Panthers.

JuJu Smith-Schuster vs Chiefs

$7200 FanDuel – 12.40 projection
$6400 DraftKings – 15.57

Juju is a beast, can’t really argue with that. Just as inarguable, Kansas City is awful at stopping anything. He’s a poor man’s Antonio Brown and deserves a spot in any lineup.

Cooper Kupp vs Cardinals

$6300 FD – 9.88
$5500 DK – 12.40

It’s hard to pick one Rams receiver on any given week. I like Kupp because he is the cheapest option and has a surprisingly high red zone target share. Touchdown upside on a budget is always a solid pick for your lineups.

Quincy Enunwa vs Dolphins

$5000 FD – 8.57
$4700 DK – 11.17

Last week Sam Darnold looked good, not Earth shattering but very solid. Enunwa led the team in targets by a wide margin and with Robby Anderson on the field it’s likely he won’t face top coverage. All things considered, Enunwa can have a very solid season but an especially good week this week.

Mike Williams @ Bills

$5400 FD – 6.21
$3700 DK – 7.64

Start your Chargers! Mike Williams is the WR2a/WR2b receiver in a high powered offense. Los Angeles takes the field against a terrible Buffalo defense that gave of three passing touchdowns to Joe Flacco. Start your Chargers!

Injury Update
Josh Gordon is OUT fore the Browns against the Saints. Rookie wide receiver Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins to see increased snaps/targets.

Marquise Goodwin is OUT for the 49ers against the Lions. Rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis will start and scored a touchdown in Week 1.

Tight Ends

Jordan Reed vs Colts

$6200 FanDuel – 9.75 projection
$5000 DraftKings -12.22

Who would have expected Jordan Reed wouldn’t have suffered the first season-ending touchdown at the tight end position. Always remember rule #86, when Reed is healthy he is a safe start. In a rapidly declining talent pool, Reed is a great option with a very good matchup.

Jared Cook @ Broncos

$5000 FD – 7.62
$3900 DK – 9.54

Normally I never chase points from the week before. But any matchup where Amari Cooper can be shut down is a matchup where Cook can have a big day. Just lower your expectations if you’re planning on a repeat performance of Week 1

Ian Thomas @ Falcons

$4000 FD – 5.52
$2900 DK – 7.01

Greg Olson’s back up finds himself in a very interesting position. He is very athletic, in an offense that favors the tight end and facing a Falcons team that has very serious injuries already limiting their defense. Thomas is my high upside low budget player of the week, but by no means is a must-start.
