2018 NFL DFS Week 3 Picks

on

Welcome back to the NFL DFS Week 3 main slate picks of the week. Hopefully last week my article helped you win a couple of contests and make a bit of money in the process.

This week is shaping up to have a lot of good matchups, and the widespread injuries to running backs have already created a pool of good value plays.

Also a quick shout-out to the Cleveland Browns for their first win in 635 days. I had my doubts about Baker Mayfield‘s ability, but he played a hell of a game and may have breathed life back into the Browns season.

Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes vs 49ers

$8900 FanDuel – 21.09 projection
$7000 DraftKings – 22.89

I know this is supposed to be more of a sleeper article than the obvious. I even wrote about Mahomes last week, but consider this my PSA that Mahomes is always worth consideration in your lineup. This week’s matchup against the 49ers seems as good as any for Mahomes to keep his hot streak going. This is the man I’m building my lineups around this week.

Deshaun Watson vs Giants

$7700 FD – 20.57
$6100 DK – 21.36

Watson had a redemption game last week against the Titans, and he did not disappoint. Despite spending most of the day running for his life, Watson put up 26.8 points. Now at home, and more importantly in a dome, Watson will take on the New York Giants. Watson shouldn’t have much trouble putting up points in the air and on the ground in this matchup.

Jared Goff vs Chargers

$7600 FD – 17.82
$5900 DK – 18.28

The Chargers getting smoked by Pat Mahomes week one was something I originally thought was an outlier attributed to Mahomes and not the defense. Then the Bills put up 20 points and Josh Allen had 245 yards passing. I’ll repeat that – Josh Allen had 245 yards passing. Maybe the Chargers just really need Joey Bosa back. But until they get him, a high-powered offense like the Rams should have no real problems putting up points on the Chargers.

Blake Bortles vs Titans

$6700 FD – 16.83
$5600 DK – 17.59

This pick might be where I lose your attention, but hear me out. Bortles smoked the Patriots last week for 36.6 fantasy points and while I understand he’s inconsistent week to week, Leonard Fournette‘s injury makes him an appealing option this week again. Even if Fournette is healthy, Tennessee is far more capable of stopping the run than it is stopping passing. So while the defense is trying to stop the run Bortles could put up respectable numbers again as a cheaper boom or bust option.

Tevin Coleman vs Saints

$7300 FanDuel – 13.62 projection
$6400 DraftKings – 15.23

Coleman is a borderline must-start when Freeman gets hurt, and while his cost does reflect it this week it does little to lower my interest in him. His targets and efficiency mean he is unlikely to be completely scripted out of the game and facing a stacked New Orleans team the offense should be firing on all cylinders for the entire game.

Kenyan Drake vs Raiders

$6800 FD – 12.50
$5600 DK – 14.23

Oakland is a bad defense, you don’t really need to be told that at this point. Kenyan Drake may be dealing with a committee backfield, but he has the pass-catching upside and overall efficiency that lead to solid points against soft defenses like Oakland’s. Drake is a safe bet for RB2 numbers this week plus his big play/touchdown upside.

Chris Thompson vs Packers

$6500 FD – 11.30
$6300 DK – 13.65

Thompson is PPR gold, plain and simple. Alex Smith has officially returned to his playing it safe, and check-down way of playing football. So if you use FanDuel you may want to fade him. But in full point PPR with Draft Kings, he is as safe a bet as one can expect going up against an average Green Bay linebacker core.

Matt Breida @ Chiefs

$6200 FD – 11.61
$5400 DK – 13.08

Breida’s cost doesn’t seem to reflect the fact that he leads the league in rushing yards. But his major appeal this week is his far superior catching ability to Alfred Morris. The Chiefs have gotten lit up by running backs, particularly running backs who catch passes, so in this soon to be slugfest, Breida should have a big return on a minimal investment.

Corey Clement vs Colts

$5800 FD – 10.30
$4300 DK – 11.07

Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles are ruled out. Working in a timeshare because of Ajayi’s mid-game injury Clement put up 19.5 PPR point’s last week against the Bucs. While I expect Clement to be slightly less efficient, his volume should ensure his value this week.

Will Fuller vs Giants

$7200 FanDuel – 9.92 projection
$5900 DraftKings – 12.38

Due to injuries to both Fuller and Watson, they played only five games together. In those five games, Fuller has eight touchdowns. The main reason for his success is that DeAndre Hopkins attracts most of the defense’s attention leaving Fuller 1-on-1 more often than not. Fuller is a borderline must have at his WR2 price because despite his low floor, his ceiling is as high as most WR1s.

Nelson Agholor vs Colts

$6600 FD – 11.26
$6100 DK – 14.06

Agholor has had very little competition for targets outside of Zach Ertz and has had 8 catches in each of his first two games. Couple that with the fact that Carson Wentz is finally back in the lineup and this could be a very big day for the Eagles as a whole, but especially their number one target. Agholor is very likely to get low end WR1 to high-end WR2 numbers this week.

John Brown vs Broncos

$6200 FD – 8.04
$4800 DK – 9.67

While Crabtree still seems to be the number one receiver on this team, Brown has been 1b. With Chris Harris likely going against Crabtree, Brown should once again see enough of the target share to be a solid option Joe Flacco can depend on.

Tight Ends

George Kittle @ Chiefs

$5800 FanDuel – 8.04 projection
$4500 DraftKings – 9.94

It will be all hands on deck against the Chiefs this weekend. Anybody and everybody who can catch passes is startable this week. Kittle has a good target share so far this season and has proven more reliable than Pierre Garcon for regular touches. Couple that with a bleak outlook for the tight end position, and Kittle could easily be a top 5 option this week.

Eric Ebron @ Chiefs

$5500 FD – 7.08
$3400 DK – 9.05

Jack Doyle is out this week. For the Colts to have any chance at all, Ebron will have to step into that role. While he has been up until this point very touchdown dependent, this week Ebron could see enough volume to be a high performing TE1.
