2018 NFL DFS Week 7 Picks

on

Another insane week of football down, nine more for fantasy football players to go.

The Denver Broncos beat up a bad Arizona Cardinals football team on Thursday Night Football. It was a terrible game unless you have some of the Broncos on your fantasy football team.

The rest of us are looking forward to the games this weekend.

So let’s get excited with some picks to think about at every position at different price points.

Quarterbacks

Jared Goff @ San Francisco 49ers

$8300 FanDuel
$6600 DraftKings

Goff is the best available QB for the main slate games this week. His matchup is good against the 49ers, who have a better run defense than they have pass defense. The key to this matchup, however, is the surprising efficiency of the San Fransisco offense. After losing Jimmy Garoppolo early in the season, they haven’t really seemed to miss a beat. Goff will be throwing continuously through this one. There’s always a chance that Todd Gurley‘s big play of the day is a short catch with a big run, bloating Goff’s stats.

Cam Newton @ Philadelphia Eagles

$8200 FD
$5900 DK

Cam Newton is basically a running back that sometimes throws the football. His matchup isn’t particularly great, but it is solid when you consider that Philadelphia has been in the middle of the pack this season when facing QBs. They even allowed Marcus Mariota to throw for two scores and rush for a touchdown! Newton currently ranks 7th in fantasy points per game this season at QB and the formula for determining his upside is easy. Fair secondary + good pass rush = Cam Newton scrambling for his life.

Joe Flacco vs New Orleans Saints

$7200 FD
$5400 DK

Flacco is the least sexy option of the week. So far this season he has maxed out at 25DK/22FD points. But this week is his best chance so far this season to put up big numbers. The Saints rushing defense has been exceptional this season, giving up less than 3 yards per carry. With the Ravens duo already struggling, they should be all but scripted out of the game. As good as the Ravens defense has been, they’re facing Drew Brees. Anything short of 30 points and the Ravens will lose. I expect Flacco to take full advantage of this matchup and while he’s by no means a must-start, his low price tag means he should be in a lot of lineups this week.

Todd Gurley @ San Francisco 49ers

$10200 FanDuel
$9800 DraftKings

What can I say that you haven’t already heard? His price tag scared me away from him last week – I was wrong as he earned every bit of his cost. This week, while I do think Goff and the receivers will get theirs, Gurley should as always, lead the league in fantasy points.

LeSean McCoy @ Indianapolis Colts

$6200 FD
$5600 DK

McCoy has been putting up respectable, but not great, numbers lately thanks to finally seeing a good amount of touches. This for me is all about the matchup. With the injury to Josh Allen, the leagues second worst offense just got worse. Now they are in a position where McCoy is really their only option on offense. This is a pick nobody will be happy making, but McCoy is one big play away from having a top 10 outing against a bottom 10 defense.

Tarik Cohen vs New England Patriots

$6600 FD
$5100 DK

As unhappy as I am about it, the Patriots have given up huge plays all season long, so Tarik Cohen once again makes my list. The overall success of the Bears team happened to come at the same time Matt Nagy stopped calling plays that were designed to have Jordan Howard catching passes. As a result, Cohen’s volume should be safe for the time being, making him the back to start in Chicago. As a Pats fan, I hate to even say it out loud, but Cohen also brings the threat of a kick return touchdown points as well.

Duke Johnson @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

$5100 FD
$4000 DK

Johnson had his first good game of the season last week. It comes as no surprise that it was the game where Jarvis Landry couldn’t get things going and Baker Mayfield suffered a minor ankle injury. His low price tag vs a bad Bucs defense makes Johnson my high upside, dart throw, pick of the week.

Trade Alert

The Cleveland Browns have traded Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars – Nick Chubb is also in play this week vs the Bucs.

DeSean Jackson vs Cleveland Browns

$6700 FanDuel
$5800 DraftKings

The Browns will be without E.J. Gaines which means the only real corner the Browns have is Denzel Ward. That is bad news for Mike Evans but great news for Jackson. His connection with Winston was a question mark going into last week, but his 9 targets make me feel better moving forward. The Browns give up the 7th most yards after the catch, which is where Jackson has shined, so I expect this to be a big day for him.

Josh Gordon @ Chicago Bears

$6700 FD
$5600 DK

Last week Josh Gordon’s 9 targets doubled his season total. He has very quickly earned the trust of Tom Brady. With Khalil Mack‘s status in question this week, Brady may be able to connect on a few deep passes and the trends dictate they’re likely to go to Gordon. His status is currently questionable, but it has been for the past two weeks as well. So while he is likely to play, his situation needs to be monitored moving forward.

Devin Funchess @ Philadelphia Eagles

$6400 FD
$5300 DK

Funchess has been Cam’s go-to guy in the absence of Greg Olsen. He has averaged 13.24 DK points (10.94 FD) per game so far this season. So far Philly has given up the 6th most fantasy points to wide receivers and that’s factoring in the terrible performance by the New York Football Giants. Funchess has been the only regularly targeted WR in this offense and with Olsen remaining a question mark, he is likely to stay that way.

Willie Snead vs New Orleans Saints

$5400 FD
$4000 DK

This pick is mostly centered towards DraftKings and the full PPR scoring, but lately, Willie Snead has emerged as the preferred target of Joe Flacco. He’s had 7 or more targets in 3 straight games and has turned them into double-digit PPR fantasy points. This is a game that will require a lot of points to win, so Flacco should be throwing the ball a lot.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz vs Carolina Panthers

$7500 FanDuel
$7100 DraftKings

It’s time we all accept that big-name tight ends is usually an advantage over anybody else. Ertz was off to a rocky start but has been one of the most consistent tight ends available. Carolina has had pretty good efficiency stopping receivers, at least those not named Odell. However, they have allowed the 7th most fantasy points to tight ends, on a per game basis, this season. So while Alshon Jeffery may put up another big game, the safest bet this week on the Eagles is Ertz.

George Kittle vs Los Angeles Rams

$6400 FD
$5000 DK

Kittle and the 49ers as a whole have been quite impressive without Garoppolo. What I like best about this matchup are the very exploitable Rams linebackers. While they have not allowed a TE touchdown, they are bottom 10 in recpetions and yards allowd to opposing tight ends. There is no reason to believe we shouldn’t expect a solid floor out of Kittle this week. Marquise Goodwin had a breakout game last week and will be the focus of the Rams defense, opening things up for Kittle.

David Njoku @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

$5700 FD
$4200 DK

Despite my firm belief that big-name tight ends are best, anybody playing Tampa can put up huge numbers. Austin Hooper just did it, Trey Burton did it before that, and it was Vance McDonald before that. I expect the usual few mistakes from Baker Mayfield, which is why he didn’t make my list, but I believe it’s very likely that Njoku will continue this trend of TE success against the Bucs.
