2019 Fantasy Baseball Rest of Season Rankings

on

Well now, I guess a lot can change in a week and the 2019 Fantasy Baseball Rest of Season Rankings. Case in point, I went from saying Yordan Alvarez was not going to be ranked high due to playing time concerns, to moving him up to 45th in my OF rankings. Admittingly that still might be too low, but I’m still factoring in some playing time concerns when the Astros get healthy.

We also had a trade last week. The Mariners sent Edwin Encarnacion to the Yankees. It was a peculiar move for the Yankees, especially since they will be getting Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge back. EE, Stanton and Judge are locked into the lineup, but this directly affects Clint Frazier who was already optioned to the Minors. There are rumors that he is being shopped, but until then he can be dropped.

Injuries

  • Sean Newcomb got hit in the head in his second start back in the rotation, likely to miss some time with a concussion at least.
  • Kevin Gausman is on the IL with plantar fasciitis.
  • Yoan Moncada returned from his back injury, but was pulled in the first game back. Not a good sign.
  • Kyle Hendricks is on the IL with shoulder inflammation. Expected back in mid-July.
  • Corey Seager landed on the IL with a left hamstring strain. Not expected to return until the All-Star Break.
  • Byron Buxton is dealing with a wrist injury that has kept him out of the lineup the last few games. Should avoid the IL so no movement for now.
  • Noah Syndergaard is on the IL with a hamstring injury. Might only miss one start.
  • Brandon Nimmo as rehabbing, but had a setback with his neck.
  • Hunter Pence, the bounceback player of the year candidate, is on the IL with a groin strain.
  • Justin Upton returned to the Angels and moves up the rankings.
  • Mike Clevinger returned as well. Struggled a bit in his first start, but I think he should be fine.

Other Movers

  • Of course, as soon as I drop Trevor Bauer he goes out and throws a combined 17.2 IP of one-run ball. Walks are still a concern, but this is a reminder that he is truly dominant.
  • Nick Pivetta is continuing his climb up the rankings as he had another solid outing against a strong Braves lineup since the last update.
  • Ketel Marte has had himself a fantastic last seven games. He has six HR in that span of time, putting him over 20 on the season. The breakout is officially here.
  • Scott Kingery is moving up the rankings as hit hot June continues. Unless the Phillies trade for somebody the playing time will be there, which is key.
  • Ian Desmond, who was tossed aside in April has been quietly good since. He is batting .313 with six HR, 24 RBI and 25 R since.
  • Jose Martinez has been highlighted here a few times. This time he falls as he has been starting sporadically thanks in part to a .265 wOBA in June.
