2019 Fantasy Baseball Week 2 Waiver Wire: Snake Bit

on

We are starting to get into the groove of the baseball season.

As always we have some players who we were hoping to rely on getting off to hot and cold starts. I urge you not to panic… in most cases.

Regardless of not panicking, you should always be active on the waiver wire no matter what time of year.

There are almost always reasons to make moves, from injuries plaguing your team to downright poor play from your non-superstars.

Nick Ahmed, SS, Arizona Diamondbacks

Nick Ahmed is having a very successful start to the season. A .361 BABIP is not going to continue, but he is a player that can give you moderate power with double-digit home runs.

The counting stats, runs and RBI will be useful too especially while the Diamondbacks are producing as a team with wRC+ that is in the top 10 right now.

Christian Walker, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks

Walker getting a lot of playing time now with the Jake Lamb injury. He is always a player that had the potential, especially in the power dept, but never given the chance thanks to being stuck behind Chris Davis and company in Baltimore.

Now in Arizona and hitting in the heart of the order the chances are going to be there for him. It is possible too that if he performs while Lamb is out, he takes over for him full-time.

Merrill Kelly, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks,

Apparently, I really like the Diamondbacks. In reality, I’m just shocked to see them so low owned right now, Kelly being the most surprising.

Kelly has gotten off to a great start with a 2.57 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 14 innings. I understood the hesitation of drafting him after a terrible Spring. Let’s not forget just a year ago Miles Mikolas had a terrible Spring after being signed away from an International team. Then he went off to have a great season.

I can see Kelly doing something very similar and now is the chance to get him.

Domingo German, SP, New York Yankees

With the recent news that Luis Severino is going to be on the shelf until at least the end of May, German gets a huge boost. The hesitation with picking him up was due to the unknown nature of his role in the Yankees rotation.

With the fantastic start he has had, 1.64 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 10 strikeouts in 11 innings, I see no reason not to pick him up. Bonus for those in leagues that count wins is he should be able to rack up plenty of them behind that offense.

Clint Frazier, OF, New York Yankees

The Yankees are dealing with injuries right now so Frazier is getting a chance to prove himself and crushing right now. In seven games this season he has hit three home runs, and nine RBI while batting .360.

Despite the great numbers, you can’t expect them to continue. Because of that and the unknown playing time going forward, he is more of a deep league pickup right now. However, those struggling in standard leagues can scoop him up for the short-term boost.
