2020 3M Open DFS Deep Sleepers

The 2020 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities will look a lot different from many of the other tournaments we’ve had so far since “The Interruption”, which makes picking DFS deep sleepers pivotal.

It might be the first tournament since the schedule got scrambled that is not seeing a far deeper field than it usually does. There are still a handful of top names like Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka teeing it up. However, when Russell Henley and Harris English are within the top dozen salaried players (and rightfully so), that’s a weaker field.

Which makes picking sleepers this week even tougher than usual. Of course, this ain’t my first time at the rodeo. But for this week, we’ll draw the sleeper line at anyone that is BOTH under $8K on DraftKings and $9K on FanDuel this week.

As we preview other tournaments, we will adjust that line. But I definitely feel that is a fair line for this week.

Disagree? Fine, feel free to comment in the section below or hit me up on Twitter @MarkStrausberg. In the meantime, here are your 2020 3M Open DFS Deep Sleepers for this week.

Wyndham Clark (DK $7300, FD $8900)

Clark was having a pretty good season before the break. Since then, not so much. However, he finished T-5 here last year. I got a suspicion he gets his mojo back on a course he’s obviously had some success.

Rich Werenski (DK $7400, FD $8800)

Werenski’s season however has been the converse of Clark. He missed four of six cuts coming into the break, but since the break has made the cut in all four tournaments. One of his biggest strengths is his putting, which will, unfortunately, be a little muted here. However, he played here last year and finished a solid 46th. Given how well he is playing recently, expect him to finish even higher this week.

Aaron Wise (DK $7100, FD $8500)

If you like going with the hot hand, Wise is NOT the player for you. Wise has missed the cut in three-quarters of his dozen tournaments since he finished T-3 at the Bermuda Championship in what seems like a lifetime ago in November. However, Wise is one of the best off the tee in this field. He’s 61st in Driving Distance in the entire PGA and an even more impressive 4th overall in GIR (Greens in Regulations). That’s a nice match for the open nature of TPC Twin Cities, making him a sneaky GPP Play.

Chesson Hadley (DK $6900, FD $8400)

Hadley not only missed the cut here in Minnesota last year, but he also finished almost DFL here last year. And most of his performances this year will scare many away. However, it’s his stats since the break that have me intrigued. In this field, he ranks 7th in SG: Ball Striking, 6th in SG: Approach (7th from 175-200 yards), and 8th in Birdie or Better %. He’s a much better value on DraftKings, but even on FanDuel, he’s worth the gamble.

Seamus Power (DK $6500, FD $7600)

Unlike last week’s “Massacre at Muirfield”, this week at TPC Twin Cities should be a birdie-fest. Power is 7th in Birdie or Better percentage. He’s also 13th in Proximity to the Hole and T-30th in Par-5 scoring. Those kinds of stats in this price range give me plenty of confidence. I’ll be drafting a bunch of Seamus and I’m looking forward to saying “I have the Power!”

Tim Herron (DK $6000, FD $7000)

If you love your first five golfers, you could do far worse than Herron to keep yourself under the salary cap. First off, he was the first player to record a hole-in-one during the inaugural tournament here last year. It probably should not have been a surprise, given this multiple tournaments winner’s ties to Minnesota. He was born in Minneapolis and still resides in the Gopher State. He won’t have a huge crowd to support him, but something tells me that local pride will enable him to make the cut.
