2021 Fantasy Baseball Spring Training Position Battles

The shortened 60 game MLB season has been nothing short of "entertaining." You never know what news is going to break with each passing moment! But the past is the past and it is time to look ahead with the 2020 Fantasy Baseball Week 4 Pitching Planner.

Major League Baseball has released an updated schedule for the St. Louis Cardinals. They are scheduled to play 21 games in August, including four doubleheaders, and 32 games in September, including seven doubleheaders!

They are not the only team with schedule doubleheaders in the near future. The Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies are set to play two games on Thursday, August 20th and the Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals have a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday, August 22nd.

The Cincinnati Reds are the latest team to get hid by the COVID-19 bug. After their win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, it was announced that one member of the team tested positive. They have two games left against the Bucs (most likely to be postponed - confirmed) before a day off on Monday and a two-game set with the Kansas City Royals** on Tuesday and Wednesday. They also have a four game series scheduled with none other than the St. Louis Cardinals to end the week.

Trevor Bauer and Luis Castillo will not make their scheduled starts to end Fantasy Baseball Week 3.

I will do my best to share all the important news I come across, along with any trends we are starting to see.

The Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays are scheduled to play eight games in Week 4.

The Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds*, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals**, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays are scheduled to play six games.

Every other team is scheduled to play seven games between Aug 17 - Aug 23.

If the Reds games are cancelled all week, the Royals will play just four games, all against the Minnesota Twins. One on Monday in Minnesota and then Friday through Sunday at home in Kansas City.

The Cardinals have a five game series scheduled with the Chicago Cubs with doubleheaders on Monday and Wednesday.

Pitcher of the Week

Lance Lynn, Texas Rangers

Lynn pitched a two-hit complete game against the Colorado Rockies, at Coors Field, on Friday night. He has allowed just four earned runs across five starts in 2020.

Lance Lynn is among the top 10 in baseball in innings pitched (32.1 - 1st), ERA (1.11 - 3rd), WHIP (0.74 - 7th), and quality starts (4 - tied 1st) - @FOXSportsSW

Injury Updates

Jacob deGrom was scratched from his start on Friday with a neck injury. Let's hope he makes his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins.

Frankie Montas (back) was also scratched on Friday, leading to another Jesus Luzardo start.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Joe Musgrove (triceps) on the 10-day injured list.

Prospect Portal

Casey Mize is the name we all know but Tarik Skubal struck out 179 batters in 122.2 innings between A & AA ball last season!

Randy Dobnak has looked great for the Minnesota Twins in 2020. Over four starts, he has compiled 20 innings pitched and owns a 0.90 ERA with a matching WHIP. He is not a strikeout guy with just 11 punch outs but he leads all starting pitchers in ground ball rate at 66.7%.

Jesus Luzardo got rocked in a spot start for the Oakland Athletics against the San Francisco Giants. He allowed nine hits (two home runs) in 3.1 innings and allowed six earned runs. That jacked up his season ERA to 4.79.

David Peterson has looked good for the New York Mets who are missing Noah Syndergaard and Marcus Stroman in their rotation. Peterson has 21.2 innings under his belt across four starts and lowered his ERA to 2.91 with five shutout innings against the Washington Nationals this past Thursday.

Spencer Howard has not looked great for the Philadelphia Phillies in his first two MLB starts. He has allowed 14 hits and eight runs in eight innings pitched. To make matters worse, he left his last start early with a blister.

Ryan Castellani has impressed in his first two starts for the Colorado Rockies. He hasn't had an ERA in the Minors under 4.81 since 2016 (8.31 in 2019 in AAA), but has 10 strikeouts and just two hits and one earned run in 8.2 innings across two starts.

Kyle Wright has now walked 16 batters in 15 innings pitched for the Atlanta Braves.

This Call to the Pen...

Kirby Yates has an elbow injury, is going to have an MRI done and will miss some time. Look for Drew Pomeranz to becomes the San Diego Padres closer but don't forget about Emilio Pagan.

Keone Kela returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen.

Sean Doolittle (knee) was placed on the injured list, leaving the closer role to Daniel Hudson for the Washington Nationals.

Edwin Diaz is no longer the New York Mets closer, but in six August innings pitched he has racked up 12 strikeouts! Seth Lugo is still the teams closer for the time being.

2020 Fantasy Baseball Week 4 Waiver Wire August 17, 2020 - 4:00 pm

[…] Miller Park hurt Davies, and his numbers indicate that he is an entirely different pitcher, including allowing a career-low 1.2 BB/9. A small sample size but the 2020 season is short, and Fantasy managers can not wait to take chances. Take a chance this week when Davies is scheduled for two starts this upcoming week, according to the Fantasy Baseball Week 4 Pitching Planner.  […]
