2020 Fantasy Football Week 8 Quarterback Streaming

on

Welcome to the 2020 Fantasy Football Week 8 Quarterback Streaming article!

With Week 7 in the books, we are now over halfway through the fantasy football regular season. This is the time of year when champions are made! In last week’s article, I recommended streaming Joe Burrow, Gardner Minshew, Teddy Bridgewater, and Andy Dalton in the bargain bin.

Overall it was a pretty successful week as those guys finished as the QB4, QB14, QB13, and QB27 on the week respectively (thanks a lot Dalton). This week has a lot of high end streaming talent but not a lot of depth, so try your best to grab one of these first two streamers.

The 2020 Fantasy Football Week 8 Quarterback Streaming will highlight QBs owned in under 50% of NFL.com’s leagues.

Teddy Bridgewater, Carolina Panthers (46.1% Owned)

Teddy Bridgewater had a nice fantasy game against the Saints, completing 23 of 28 passes for 254 yards, and two touchdowns. Bridgewater started off the fantasy season rocky but he has since righted the ship.

In his past four games, Bridgewater has now been the QB4, QB12, QB23, and QB13. In that time span, he is the QB9 overall. These aren’t flukey games either. Even when he was struggling in fantasy, Bridgewater was playing excellent as a real-life quarterback.

He has been accurate; first in the league in On Target percentage (83.2%), and fourth-best in Bad Throw percentage (13.3%) per Pro Football Reference

This accuracy has translated into yardage as he is second in the league in completion percentage, and sixth in the league yards per attempt, resulting in the fifth-most passing yards in the league this season.

His comeback hasn’t been as hyped as Alex Smith’s or Cam Newton’s, but Teddy Bridgewater has quietly returned to form.

The Matchup

Hopefully, you grabbed Bridgewater before last weekend, not just for the points, but because he now has a very soft matchup against the Atlanta Falcons

I’ve picked on the Falcons a number of times in these articles, and for good reason, it continues to lead to success. They have that perfect combination of a fast pace of play (third fastest), high-powered offense (sixth in YPG), and terrible pass-defense (first in points allowed to fantasy QBs).

The fast pace of play leads to more opportunities for opposing quarterbacks, the high-powered offense forces teams to throw the ball to keep up, and the terrible defense lets them do it quite easily.

In fact, the Falcons can’t stop themselves from scoring!

In addition, Bridgewater just torched Atlanta a couple of weeks ago for 300+ yards and three touchdowns. This is a must-start matchup for Bridgewater. Our consensus rankings currently have him as the QB11 on the week but his upside is much higher.

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (32.5% Owned)

Speaking of quietly having a career year… Derek Carr is on pace for the highest passer rating, completion percentage, yardage total, touchdown total, and lowest interception count in his seven-year career.

Last week he finished as the QB12. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, and he looks like he is improving every week

Nobody would’ve recommended playing Carr in the past two games. They were tough matchups against the Chiefs and Buccaneers, but they were actually his two best games of the year so far.

It might feel weird to plug Carr into your lineup after years of mediocrity, but he has been sharp thus far and the matchup should help that continue.

The Matchup

Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders will be traveling to Cleveland to take on the Baker Mayfield led Browns this week.

Cleveland has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Most of this is due to the huge amount of passing yardage they are giving up (third-most in the league).

Cleveland is fresh off a win against the Cincinnati Bengals where they allowed rookie Joe Burrow to light them up for 400+ yards and four touchdowns.

As a bonus, Carr has future matchups against the Chargers and the Broncos who allow the third and twelfth most points to fantasy quarterbacks. This rounds out a nice little three-game stretch where Carr should be playable.

Taking a chance on Carr as a bye-week filler for someone like Deshaun Watson is a smart play.

Bargain Bin Option

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings  (14.5% Owned)

Kirk Cousins had his best fantasy game of the season against the Falcons in Week 6, throwing for 343 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Fresh off the bye in Week 7, Cousins is once again my candidate for bargain bin stream of the week. Although I’m going to be honest, there isn’t a great third option for streaming this week after Bridgewater and Carr in my opinion.

Cousins isn’t having a great year and his team, the Minnesota Vikings, are just 1-5 in a very competitive division. Most of Cousins’ great performance against the Falcons came in garbage time. Fortunately, there should be plenty of garbage time to go around in this matchup.

The Matchup

Cousins and the Vikings take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in a divisional matchup.

The Packers, led by Aaron Rodgers, are currently tied for first in the NFC at 5-1 and have looked like true title contenders.

The Packers are favored by about a touchdown in this matchup, and the total is 57.5 which is the highest of the week. Based on what Vegas is telling us, this should be a high-scoring rout by the Packers. This will leave plenty of garbage time for Cousins to make up fantasy points while playing catch-up.

There’s a good chance this recommendation will look ugly through three quarters before turning around in the fourth. If you can handle the ups and downs, Cousins could just be able to deliver for your fantasy team.
