2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 13 Weekly Planner

Welcome to the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 13 Weekly Planner!

We’re officially almost at the halfway point of the regular fantasy season. I get the sense that big changes are looming overhead, presciently staring down from the rafters at nervous fantasy managers who have Damian Lillard rostered. Oh wait, that’s me.

The trade deadline for the 2021-2022 NBA season is 3 PM on February 10th. There are some big question marks that will be addressed by that time. The Indiana Pacers are planning to blow it up on the back of a disappointing season thus far, as they currently sit as the 13th seed in the East (14-24). Not many could’ve predicted a team throwing a huge bag at Rick Carlisle just so they can tank. But alas, I suppose we’ll find out where Domontas Sabonis, Myles Turner, and Malcolm Brogdon are headed (if anywhere) soon enough.

The Ben Simmons saga sits with no conclusion as of yet, as he continues to bleed paychecks and tank his trade value while waiting for Daryl Morey to make a move. We’ll see whether that gets settled within the next month as well.

Kyrie Irving is finally back, and so are your weekly planners. Without further ado, here’s the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 13 Weekly Planner, where you’ll find options for streaming, pickups, and teams to target and avoid.

Pickup of the Week

Garrison Mathews, SG/SF, Houston Rockets

You probably caught some of the headlines recently regarding some instability within the Rockets’ roster concerning Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr. You know what’s not unstable? Garrison Mathews’ shooting. He’s hitting 37% of his attempts beyond the arc, and takes seven three-pointers a game. He won’t provide any stocks, but averages less than one turnover a game and will get around 30 minutes of game time.

Mathews currently sits outside of the top 130, but he’s getting steady minutes and is pretty young. He’s played himself out of the two-way contract he originally signed with the Rockets into a four year, $8.2M contract. He’s got a lot to prove, and honestly I love the G league guys who grind and find a spot on NBA rosters. If you’re in need of steady 3’s on solid percentages and low turnovers, he’s your guy.

Team to Target

The Rockets have a four-game slate in Week 13, playing against the 76ers (19th in defensive rating), the Spurs (17th), and the Kings twice (27th). They have a lot of young talent they’re looking to develop, and with Alperen Sengun temporarily sidelined with an ankle sprain, will have some usage available for streaming.

Guys like Eric Gordon (33% owned on Yahoo!), Garrison Mathews (20%), Daniel Theis (13%), and KJ Martin (7%) are probably available in your league and can be streamed in Week 13 with reasonable upside. Keep your eye on Sengun’s status; if he misses more time, Daniel Theis could be looking at a pretty big workload for the next week or two.

Team to Avoid

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have the only two-game slate in Week 13, and additionally don’t have much streaming upside. Everybody worth rostering is probably owned (Malik Monk is the lowest at 48%). There are a few stragglers like Talen Horton-Tucker or Dwight Howard, but I just don’t have confidence they’ll produce.

Building on the previous topic of the trade deadline, I’m also curious to see whether Russell Westbrook will get traded.
