2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 17 Weekly Planner

by Bill Yin

Welcome to the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 17 Weekly Planner!

This will be the final weekly planner before the February 10th NBA trade deadline for the 2021-22 season. If you’re sitting on a top-three spot in your fantasy league, you likely have the luxury of stashing some high upside guys while hoping that a favorable trade will go down. For those of you who are not so fortunate, perhaps it’s not worth it. It may be a better idea to try to grab some immediate value so that you can push for a playoff spot.

Whatever your situation is, it’s going to be an interesting week as the NBA landscape shifts. As we approach the deadline and All-Star weekend, let’s also take a look at the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 17 Weekly Planner, where you’ll find options for streaming, pickups, and teams to target and avoid.

Pickup of the Week

Isaiah Jackson, PF, Indiana Pacers

There seems to be some kind of 2022 big man curse on the Indiana Pacers. Myles Turner will continue to be sidelined for a few weeks, Domantas Sabonis is in health and safety protocols, Oshae Brissett has a right ankle issue, and Goga Bitadze has a right foot issue. Isaiah Jackson left Wednesday night’s game in just 22 seconds to an ankle sprain. The next tallest active player on their roster is about 6’7.

So why are we grabbing Isaiah Jackson?

At this moment, it’s not clear how long he’ll be out for, but he obviously flashes tremendous upside. The 20-year-old Kentucky product broke out on January 31st with a spectacular 26 point, 10 rebounds, three stock (i.e. blocks & steals) performance. He should have Indiana at least curious to see what he can do with more minutes as an athletic rim running PF with nice touch and defensive hustle. This pickup can be considered a stash due to the unknown severity of his ankle injury. However, should Indiana sell Sabonis, Turner, or both by the deadline, Jackson teases some serious ROS upside.

Team to Target

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves look well-positioned for a play-in spot this season, and rightfully so. Anthony Edwards’ emergence as a young star behind Karl Anthony Towns (arguably he might be even better than Towns) has translated into the 7th seed alongside D’Angelo Russell’s excellent defense (?!) this season. They have key defensive pieces in Patrick Beverley and fantasy-revelation Jarred Vanderbilt. The T-wolves also boast a surprising 13th ranked defense in the NBA following years of defensive ineptitude.

In fact, the last time their defense ranked 13th or higher was in 2013-14, nearly ten years ago with Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, and Luc Mbah a Moute.

In Week 17 the Wolves will be going up against the Kings twice (29th in defensive rating), the Bulls (19th), and the Pacers (25th). They should be looking at everybody on this list as easy wins except Chicago, and have key contributors such as Jaden McDaniels (33% rostered on Yahoo!), Patrick Beverley (30%), Malik Beasley (29%), and Taurean Prince (7%) who’s been playing very well.

Team to Avoid

The Rockets were also the team to avoid in Week 14. In Week 17 they should be avoided for identical reasons. Houston is terrible, doesn't have great players, and only has two games on their schedule. Enough said.
