2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 18 Weekly Planner

by Bill Yin

Welcome to the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 18 Weekly Planner!

The 2021-22 NBA Trade Deadline did not disappoint. Some big pieces have shifted the landscape of the NBA, most notably the Philadelphia/Brooklyn Deal sending James Harden and Paul Millsap to the 76ers. The Nets received Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two first-round picks.

The Dallas Mavericks moved Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to the Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. This move conveys a lack of belief in the long-term viability of the Doncic/Porzingis pairing, and probably weakens their team considerably. However, it’s unlikely that this move happens without consulting Doncic first.

The Trail Blazers are rearranging their team, shipping out Norman Powell and Robert Covington to the Clippers for almost nothing.

And finally, the Kings/Pacers swap sending Domantas Sabonis, both Jeremy Lambs, and a second-round pick to Sacramento in exchange for a package of Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Tristian Thompson is hard to decipher. It’s puzzling why Sacramento would be willing to deal Haliburton, a 21-year-old point guard who looks poised for stardom very soon.

What do we make of these moves? Let’s find out in the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 18 Weekly Planner, where you’ll find options for streaming, pickups, and teams to target and avoid.

Pickup of the Week

Devin Vassell, SG/SF, San Antonio Spurs

One of the trades that wasn’t mentioned in the opening of this week’s planner is a move that sent Derrick White to the Boston Celtics, presumably opening up a starting spot for Devin Vassell, a second-year player from Florida State who’s flirted with some intriguing lines this season when given minutes.

He’s been good for two steals in each of his last four games, and will be a good source of points, triples, and steals with good efficiency and low turnovers. Grab him now and see what happens.

Team to Target

The Nets have some serious, serious usage that needs to be filled in after the Harden/Simmons swap. Ben Simmons will need a couple of weeks to get ramped up into game shape, and given Kyrie’s part-time availability, there will be plenty of shots to go around on this depleted Nets team in Week 18. They have a five-game slate and additionally have just waived DeAndre’ Bembry.

In Week 18, they’ll face off against the Kings (29th in defensive efficiency), the Knicks (15th), the Wizards (22nd), the Celtics (3rd), and the Bucks (9th). It’s not the easiest slate to try to get buckets against, but the usage available offsets the difficulty of the opponents they’ll run into in the latter end of the extended Week 18.

Team to Avoid

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are reeling right now going 3-7 in their last 10 contests and facing a serious existential crisis involving some internal Russell Westbrook turmoil. They aren’t playing very well and have only three games in Week 18 when most other teams have five. And don’t have much streaming upside.

Available players such as Talen Horton-Tucker (8% owned on Yahoo!), Dwight Howard (8%), DeAndre Jordan (3%), Trevor Ariza (1%), and Avery Bradley (1%) aren’t appetizing.
