2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Weekly Planner

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Weekly Planner!

We’re now a little over a quarter way through the 2021-2022 NBA season, and the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors are sitting comfortably atop the West with a ridiculous >80% win percentage. They're also top two in the league in Defensive Rating, and both top ten in offensive rating.

The injuries are also, unfortunately, beginning to ramp up: Bam Adebayo is out 4-6 weeks for thumb surgery, Damian Lillard is taking a well-deserved rest, and LeBron James was placed in COVID protocols before learning about a false positive and presenting a handful of negative tests in an effort to return to the Lakers this weekend.

There’s also a wave of non-COVID-related illnesses sweeping through the league, and you’ll need to know how to react to all these absences to stay on top of your fantasy leagues.

Without further ado, let’s jump right into the 2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Weekly Planner, where you’ll find options for streaming, pickups, and teams to target and avoid.

Pickup of the Week

Dewayne Dedmon, C, Miami Heat

With the news of Bam Adebayo’s thumb injury, the next guy in line is Dewayne Dedmon. Dedmon isn’t going to blow you away with his stats, posting a pedestrian 14-8-1 for his per-36 numbers, but he’s going to see a ton of floor time with Adebayo temporarily sidelined. If you’re in need of those big man numbers, go pick him up.

He should be good for some solid production over the next 4-6 weeks, and it’ll be interesting to see how Miami will use him moving forward without their usual star big man. Expect some extra shot attempts to go around for Butler, Herro, and Lowry as they try to patch the scoring and defensive holes created by Adebayo’s absence.

Team to Target

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs are an easy choice for streaming in Week 8; they have the only five-game slate in the league and will be running through an easy schedule playing the Suns (2nd in defensive rating), Knicks (20th), Denver twice (18), and the Pelicans (28).

Moreover, there are plenty of streaming options available. The beautiful thing about a five-game week is that your streams don’t even have to be particularly good; the sheer volume of having this many games more than offsets the quality of the players. Devin Vassell (38% owned on Yahoo), Thaddeus Young (26%), Lonnie Walker (6%), and Doug McDermott (4%) are all reasonable targets depending on which categories you need.

Team to Avoid

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors are looking at a two-game slate in Week 8, with their first game on Wednesday. You probably want to stay away from them this week, as there are much better streaming options available on the waiver wire with more upside due to games played.

Additionally, a Raptors stream this week will result in an unused roster spot until Wednesday, which could easily be a B2B stream from Monday-Tuesday with another team.
