2021-22 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Planner

Welcome to the 2021-22 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Planner! Depending on your settings it could be week 13 I guess as well, Yahoo, CBS, Fantrax, they all deal with it in different ways. It's also possible a couple of your leagues paused for a week as well with all the COVID nonsense.

Anyway, we continue to try to navigate as best we can. While writing this, we got word that nine more games have been postponed through the next week and a bit. Canadian teams are largely the ones affected as teams are shutting down because of the attendance issues (don't get me started).

We are also hearing that Montreal is shutting down for at least a week as COVID ravages the team. Boy oh boy.

Quick look at some highlights from the last week.

Aleksander Barkov returned to action, and who was the main beneficiary? Jonathan Huberdeau. He exploded with one goal and seven assists combined in two games. Huberdeau doesn't generally play on a line with Barkov at even strength, but with him back and taking on his defensive responsibilities Huberdeau has free range.

Jack Hughes seems to be putting it together. Tallying three goals and three assists in two games, albeit against Buffalo and Edmonton. What's notable, in those two games he totalled 13 shots. Very impressive stuff, he will continue to be central to the Devils offence.

Brayden Point returned to action and didn't miss a beat. Three goals and two assists in three games. Tampa seems to be struggling to maintain their dominance over the last couple of years, but Point should continue to pile up, well, points.

Let's see how our picks look from last week.

Week 11 Recap

Travis Sanheim, swing and a miss. One assist, two shots, and four blocks in three games. The Flyers continue to be fairly abysmal, and the loss of Sean Couturier is not going to help.

Jake Bean, another miss. To be fair, he was a pick-up suggestion while Adam Boqvist was sidelined. Boqvist returned to action and Bean was relegated off top pairing/top powerplay.

Oliver Wahlstrom was decent, but he only had one game over the last two weeks so it's hard to give it the yay or nay. In his game against the Golden Knights, he had two assists, 3 shots in 15:05 of ice time. It's too bad Trotz doesn't give that top line a bit more ice.

Top Targets

Anthony Duclair, LW/RW, (52% Rostered)
Opponents: CGY, @DAL, @CAR

Duclair can be a little bit feast or famine, after Barkov returned to action he managed three goals, two assists, six shots in three games. He's a bit higher owned than what I normally point out but he's still available in some of your leagues. Worth pointing out that Carter Verhaeghe (55%) is just as available and has a similar deployment.

The cats are an absolute wagon right now, hard not to love them. Duclair is a tad bit over-indexed right now, shooting above his weight class, so be aware that some correction could be en route. I'd still bank on the guy that plays for the team with the most goals this year.

No deep dives on this one, Duclair is a surface-level pick. The peripherals won't be there (outside of shots) but he provides offensive support for the NHL's hottest scoring team. Get in on the action.

Tanner Jeannot, LW/RW, (33% Rostered)
Opponents: @VGK, @LAK, @ARI

Tanner is no stranger to our waiver pick-ups. He's a consistent peripheral menace, in his last four games he's had three goals, one assist, nine PIM, eight shots, 19 hits, three blocks. We'll take it!

He's easily overlooked as an undrafted shut-down guy on a middling Nashville team. Third-line guys without powerplay time don't generally scream "pick me up!", but when he's tied for eighth-most hits in the league, we don't really care.

Nashville avoids any Canadian game concerns this week so they are a good bet to not have shut-down concerns, hopefully, I won't be eating my words in the next 10 minutes.

Kyle added Jeannot on his stock watch last week as well if you want another perspective on the lad!

Bowen Byram, D, Colorado Avalanche (34% Rostered)
Opponents: @CHI, WPG, TOR

The prodigal son returns! Byram hasn't played since Dec.1, his first game back will be against a Ducks team that is looking for their first win since Dec.15th.

Byram has only managed to play 13 games this year. In that time he has managed four goals, five assists, 26 shots, 16 hits, and 13 blocks. He's hitting it across the board, and the Avs will be happy to activate him once again.

The biggest downfall for Byram is he is firmly behind Cale Makar and Samuel Girard for powerplay time. That hasn't stopped him from putting up solid stats. Makar also has a habit of injuries, so it's not out of the question for Byram to fill that role if the worst does happen.

Colorado will have a (mostly) healthy team for the first time in a while, this could be your last chance to scoop up Byram before he is locked onto a team for good.

2021-22 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Planner: Team Schedule

As we are all aware, the schedule is no safe bet in the wake of Omicron. This is the most up-to-date calendar that I know to exist, but be aware that can change in a heartbeat.

Buffalo, Seattle, and Vancouver all have just one game this week. Montreal and New York Islanders don't play at all. Keep in mind, again, that all games played in Canadian cities right now seem to have a higher chance of postponements.
