2021 Dynasty Baseball Profile: CJ Abrams

In this week's 2021 Dynasty Baseball Profile we are examining a future star at second base in the Padres organization, CJ Abrams.

Not only is he the Padres top prospect, but he is also one of the top prospects in baseball. This 20-year-old kid was drafted with the 6th overall pick by the Padres in 2019. He weighs 185 pounds and stands 6 feet 2 inches tall.

CJ Abrams has an above-average hit tool combined with sneaky power. Once he gets called up, this kid will be one of the fastest players in the MLB.

Due to him being all tooled up, Abrams should be a five-tool second baseman.

Hit Tool

CJ Abrams has an immensely skilled bat. Due to his conspicuously quick hands, this kid has stood out at every level he has been at. In rookie ball, Abrams had a WRc+ of 189 with K% of 9 and a BB% of 6.4.

He also had an OBP of .442 and a wOBA of .492.

Because Abrams puts the ball in play with consistency, he constantly gets on base. Playing in a stacked lineup with Fernando Tatis Jr. if Abrams bats ahead of Tatis Jr, he could have more opportunities to score runs and be that much more valuable for fantasy. The Padres could have a top-tier middle infield for a long time.

Power

CJ Abrams has surprisingly sneaky power. He should continue to gain more power as he gets older and fills out more. Abrams is able to drive the ball to all fields and has gap to gap power. The Padres traded a lot of their top prospects this off-season, yet they held onto CJ Abrams. This kid is the real deal.

In rookie ball, Abrams had an ISO of .261 and an OPS of 1.104. He hit 3 home runs in 32 games. During this year's Spring Training, Abrams has continued to dominate. He has hit the ball all over the field combined with a couple of dingers. If Abrams continues to fill out and work hard, he should end up with above-average power and become an extremely dangerous hitter.

Speed

CJ Abrams has blazing quick speed. Once he gets called up, he will be one of the fastest players in the MLB. He should get a ton of steals and could lead the league in steals for a few seasons.

Abrams is a very aggressive base runner. In rookie ball, he stole 14 bags, yet got thrown out 6 times. As he matures and gets more knowledge of the game, Abrams should become a more intelligent base runner and thus that more dangerous.
