2021 Dynasty Baseball Profile: Jarred Kelenic

2021 Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week: Logan GIlbert

In this week's 2021 Dynasty Baseball Profile, we take a look at Jarred Kelenic. The Mariners stole Kelenic from the Mets in a trade after New York drafted Kelenic 6th overall in 2018. At this point, it is nearly a meme that the Mets shipped Kelenic off in exchange for Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano. Jarred Kelenic is 21 years old and listed at 6'1", weighing  190 lbs.

The Seattle Mariners have arguably the best farm in baseball. Their roster of prospects is immensely stacked, so I have no problems saying that the Mariners could go to the World Series within the next five years if all pans out well.

We will take a look at some other potential studs in the Mariners system in the weeks to come. Keep an eye out for top players such as Julio Rodriguez, Noelvi Marte, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and others.

The Mariners had an interesting draft with players like Emerson Hancock, Zach Deloach, and Kaden Polcovich. They also had an interesting IFA period with players to keep an eye on such as Starlin Aguilar, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Juan Pinto.

It is time for the Mariners to call up the number one prospect in their farm--as well as the number one prospect in baseball--in Jarred Kelenic. Kelenic is a special talent and will likely be a superstar in the MLB.

Hit Tool

Jarred Kelenic has an excellent hit tool. He has a great swing with loads of bat speed. Due to his advanced approach at the plate, Kelenic also has a great eye and discipline. He will probably be one of the top two-strike hitters in baseball.

Kelenic has destroyed at every level. He had an OPS of .981, .838, and .857 across A, A+, and AA in 2019. His wRC+ was 181, 129, and 133. Another impressive stat was that his wOBA was .439, .371, and .373. He should continue his high level of production in the MLB.

Jarred Kelenic has a great work ethic. He is constantly studying film, figuring out how to get better. That film time isn't cutting into his workouts, however.  He is also constantly in the weight room getting stronger. Kelenic has filled out with a nice amount of strength. Similar to many players we have examined in the 2021 Dynasty Baseball Profile series, Kelenic has a nice amount of power.

During rookie ball in 2018, Kelenic hit 6 dingers. In 2019, across three levels, Kelenic mashed 23 home runs. Kelenic had an ISO of .277, .195, and .289. This kid is going to be dangerous and likely hit 25+ dingers perennially.

Jarred Kelenic has good speed. In 2019, he stole 20 bases across three levels. The Mariners are a fairly aggressive organization on the base paths, so expect Kelenic to continue a high rate of steals.

Jarred Kelenic has enough speed to where he will stay in the outfield and can play all three positions.

Yeah but when does Seattle give him the call?

Jason Croft April 21, 2021 - 10:48 am

Kelenic should be in the MLB right now, but due to service time manipulation we likely have to wait until mid-June.

Nice read. Thank you. You think Cal Raleigh could be a call up soon? I’ve heard that he was one of the top hitters at the alt site last year and in this years spring training.

Raleigh is probably ready now, and could get a potential call-up by the All Star break. Dipoto loves good hitting catchers.
