2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile: Heriberto Hernandez

Welcome back to our 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile series, where we take a look this week at Tampa Bay Rays prospect Heriberto Hernandez.

Hernandez was acquired by the Rays in a trade that sent Nate Lowe to the Texas Rangers. At 21 years old, Heriberto measures 6’1″ weighing 180 lbs.

Heriberto Hernandez has a lot of power that the Rays could potentially tap into. Because Rays have one of the best developmental farm systems in baseball, they could be able to develop this kid into someone with 40-home run potential. However, due to the Rays platoon system, Hernandez could be limited with plate appearances. A lack of opportunity means he would be averaging closer to 30 home runs.

With that being said, Heriberto Hernandez is one of the best power bats we’ve covered in the 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile series.

Heriberto has a good eye at the plate, but he is still a free swinger at his young age. Because of his youth, he has a very aggressive approach at the plate.

Playing rookie ball at ages 18 and 19, Hernandez had a BB% of 22.2% and 12.1% with an OBP of .464 and .433. If he pans out well, the Rays could have a future All-Star on their hands.

Heriberto has a tremendous amount of power akin to many players we have looked at throughout these 2021 dynasty baseball prospect profile series. He will likely be participating in future home run derbies. If the Rays are able to develop this kid, he has 40 home run potential in some seasons.

Due to the Rays platoon system, Heriberto could be limited with plate appearances. However, he should still average close to 30 home runs if given enough opportunity. While playing rookie ball, he had an ISO of .343 and .302. He had a wRC+ of 200 and 181.

Heriberto is not fast at all. His lack of speed limits him to either playing first base or being a designated hitter. If you decide to pick him up, do not count on ever getting many steals from Hernandez.
