2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile: Jordan Walker

on

In this week’s 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile, I take a look at St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Jordan Walker.

Jordan Walker was one of my favorite prospects from the 2020 MLB Draft. Walker was drafted by the Cardinals out of high school with the 21st overall pick. He has already had a hot start to the 2021 MiLB season, so keep an eye out for this potential stud.

Walker’s loudest tool is his power. He currently plays third base, but will likely play first base or outfield long term. The Cardinals typically invest in prospects with loud power potential, so Walker is of no surprise to be in their farm system.

Jordan Walker may be one of the more intriguing prospects we’ve covered in our 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile series.

2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile: Jordan Walker

Hit Tool

Due to his young age, Jordan Walker has time to further develop his hit tool. He has decent plate discipline but can still tend to get aggressive at the plate.

He should dominate the low-level minor leagues. However, as he rises through the Cardinals farm, I will be interested to see how he adjusts to better pitching. Through the first week in A ball, Walker has a batting average of .286 and an on-base percentage of .500.

Power

Jordan Walker is a huge kid, which allows him to have a ton of raw power. He practically looks like an NFL defensive end. Walker has consistently posted high exit velocities, which is a great tell for dingers in the future.

Due to the amount of power this kid has, he has the potential to hit 25 home runs annually. He is already posting high exit velocities early on in the minor league season. Through the first week of the minor league season, Walker has a wRC+ of 171.

Speed

Jordan Walker has below-average speed. He is not very fast which will limit his positional eligibility to either a corner infielder or corner outfielder. Do not expect a ton of steals out of Jordan Walker.
