2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile: Nolan Jones

Welcome back to our 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profile, where this week we examine Nolan Jones. Jones is one of the Cleveland Indians’ top hitting prospects. You may not know his name yet, but he has the potential to one day be an All-Star.

Nolan Jones was drafted in the 2nd round by Cleveland. He currently measures 6’3″ and 185 lbs. At 22 years old, he is considered a top 50 prospect in all of Major League Baseball.

Hit Tool

Nolan Jones is extremely disciplined at the plate, but he does have swing-and-miss concerns. Due to his plate discipline, Jones will be a high OBP guy. In the minors in 2019, he had a walk rate of 20.1% in A+ ball and 14.7% in AA ball.

Nolan Jones has one big question mark: how often he could end up striking out. This guy is a true outcomes hitter, which is how the modern game has adjusted.

This guy has a ton of raw power. He hit 15 home runs across A+ and AA in the last minor league season we had. His wRC+ was 157 and 147. Nolan Jones has a potential ceiling of 25+ dingers per season.

Similar to many players we will be examining in our 2021 Dynasty Baseball Prospect Profiles, Jones is a true outcomes hitter. Essentially, he will strike out a ton, walk a ton, and hit a ton of home runs. He could also have 1B, 3B, and OF eligibility. Keep an eye on him to make his MLB debut at some point this season.

Nolan Jones is not very fast, so he won’t steal a ton of bases. However, he has the tools to produce double-digit steals. In the minors, he stole 7 total bases in 2019, flashing his aggressiveness on the base paths.

This guy has enough quickness to aid him in the field, meaning he won’t be a defensive liability. Nolan Jones will one day be an everyday player for the Indians.
