Carlos Santana, 1B, Kansas City Royals
Santana slashed .199/.349/.350 in 2020 and has continued playing below average into 2021. On the season he currently is slashing .221/.333/.370 with 17 home runs, 57 runs, and 56 RBIs.
Since the All-Star break, Santana is slashing .147/.216/.216 with only nine runs and six RBIs. There's not too much to go into here, Santana has been hurting Fantasy Baseball teams badly, drop him.
Fantasy Managers roster him in 71% of ESPN and Yahoo leagues, but that will drop. Fantasy Managers can look towards a player like C.J. Cron or Ty France as a potential replacement. Both players are providing better production but are rostered in fewer leagues.
Mike Yastrzemski, OF, San Francisco Giants
I mentioned Yastrzemski last week but did not go into great detail. This week we're diving a little deeper into why Yastrzemski is worth a drop.
Firstly, he's been slumping over the last 30 plus days. Since the All-Star break, Yastrzemski is slashing .191/.245/.436 and striking out 28.4% of the time. This brings his season line to .223/.312/.460 and a 23.1% strikeout rate.
Secondly, His HardHit percentage currently sits at 38.1% on the season. This mark is down from 42.9% in 2019 and 42.3% in 2020. He is only in the 34th percentile for MLB players this season in hard-hit balls.
Lastly, I believe there are better options on the waiver wire. I mentioned Tyler O'Neill last week as a potential replacement. Dennis Sosic listed Jo Adell on his 2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 19 Waiver Wire. These players are capable of putting together a nice stretch of weeks to close the 2021 Fantasy Baseball season.
Eric Haase, C, Detroit Tigers
Haase, similar to Yastrzemski and Santana, is slumping since the All-Star break. He's slashing .228/.294/.467 and striking out 29.4% of the time. Haase's 22 RBIs tie him for the ninth most in this span, however.
Haase's biggest concern is his strikeout rate, which as of right now is 32%. This places him seventh among batters with at least 250 plate appearances, but that's not all. His walk rate is 6.6%, putting him just inside the bottom 50 players with at least 250 plate appearances.
Haase does not have a long track record in the majors, recording only 326 total plate appearances, but had a nice month of July when he hit nine home runs with 29 RBIs while slashing .265/.319/.627. Fantasy Managers added Haase during this surge in his offense, but the time has come to drop him after his struggles in August.
Andrew Benintendi, OF, Kansas City Royals
Benintendi appeared on the drop list a week ago. Since then, he has slashed .105/.227/.158 in 22 plate appearances.
Benintendi stays on the drop list.
Tommy Pham, OF, San Diego Padres
Pham performed slightly better than Benintendi this week, slashing .211/.348/.316, but stays on the drop list as well.
