2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 22 Drop List

Welcome to the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 22 Drop List.

Two pitchers and two hitters add themselves to the drop list. A recently demoted relief pitcher, a starting pitcher with a 5.00 ERA, and two powerless hitters with a combined 15 home runs.

Whether the Fantasy Playoffs have started in your league or not, these players are all drops as they are not helping Fantasy Baseball teams in this crucial part of the season.

James Karinchak, RP, Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians demoted Karinchak to Triple-A on Saturday, August 28th. I expect Karinchak to be back with the MLB team this season, but this demotion shows he might not get any save or hold opportunities when he is back.

On the season he has a 4.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 7-4 record, 11 saves, 13 holds, and five blown saves. It is safe to drop Karinchak and not look back.

Dallas Keuchel, SP, Chicago White Sox

Keuchel is having one of the worst seasons of his 10-year career. He has a decent record of 8-7, but he has a 5.00 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Fantasy Managers should not trust Keuchel during his next start even though it's against the Kansas City Royals who rank 24th in runs scored.

His strikeout rate (14%) is the worst it's been since his rookie season in 2012 and ranks in the bottom 2% of MLB this season. His walk rate isn't great either and sits at 7.9% making his K-BB percentage 6.1%. Out of pitchers with at least 100 innings pitched Keuchel's 6.1 K-BB% places him second-worst in MLB this season. He is just not doing enough to help the White Sox or Fantasy Baseball teams.

Fantasy Managers roster Keuchel in 57% of ESPN and Yahoo Fantasy Baseball leagues. I think this will drop below 50% soon.

Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

Hosmer appeared on the Week 12 Drop List and many of his problems then are the same today.

His power is still bringing his production down. He has 10 homers on the season with his 469 plate appearances compared to nine homers in 2020 with 156 plate appearances. Hosmer ranks outside the top-20 first basemen in runs and RBI even though he is 15th in plate appearances.

Over the last 15 days he's slashing, .178/.302/.244, with four runs and one RBI. This slump is happening at the wrong time for Fantasy Managers trying to make the Fantasy Playoffs, drop Hosmer.

Christian Vazquez, C, Boston Red Sox

Vazquez's season has not been bad, but his numbers just do not cut it for Fantasy Baseball. He's slashing .255/.309/.342 with 43 runs, 39 RBIs, and a slim five home runs through 415 plate appearances.

Vazquez's plate appearances are third most this season among catchers, but his run production has been lacking. His runs rank 11th and RBI 17th among catchers in 2021.

The two best things going for Vazquez this season are the high amount of playing time and his low amount of strikeouts. However, these stats are not enough to keep him around and there are better options to replace him with.

Fantasy Managers roster Yadier Molina, Omar Narvaez, Sean Murphy, and Mike Zunino in fewer leagues than Vazquez, but are worth a shot over him. Additionally, the Washington Nationals have called up Keibert Ruiz and Fantasy Managers are rushing to add him. I am taking any of these catchers over Vazquez rest of the season.

Performance Review

Eugenio Suarez, 3B/SS, Cincinnati Reds

Due to splitting time with Moustakas, Suarez has only recorded six plate appearances and recorded one hit for one run.

Suarez stays on the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Drop List.

Mike Moustakas, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

Moustakas has done better than Suarez this past week. He hit two doubles, and one home run for three runs and three RBIs.

While he played better than Suarez, Moustakas will still split playing time with him. This keeps Moustakas on the drop list as well.

Jeff McNeil, 2B, New York Mets

McNeil recorded three hits and scored one run in 12 plate appearances this week. He didn't do anything to keep him on the Fantasy Team and is dropped.

Tommy Pham, OF, San Diego Padres

Pham had only one hit in 17 plate appearances and continues his slump, drop him.

Andrew McCutchen, OF, Philadelphia Phillies

McCutchen hit two singles for two runs in 11 plate appearances but stays on the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Drop List.
