2020 Fantasy Baseball First Base Preview

Welcome to the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 24 Drop List.

We advance one week closer to the glory of a Fantasy Baseball Championship and the prizes that come with it, but don't forget to put this week at the forefront of your plans and do everything possible to make it to the next round.

Three players add themselves to the drop list, all are highly rostered in ESPN and Yahoo leagues, and all play in Los Angeles. Two of the players are Los Angeles Dodgers, coming off a 2020 World Series Championship. The other is a member of the Los Angeles Angels and is currently struggling during the Fantasy Baseball Playoffs.

While these players are popular, they should be dropped to give Fantasy Baseball managers the best chance of winning. Let's go win the week!

David Fletcher, 2B, Los Angeles Angels

Fletcher's 2021 season has been solid despite his poor power numbers. He has two homers through 589 plate appearances on the season. His 72 runs and 9.2% strikeout rate are the most impressive parts of his year.

Fletcher has five hits through 39 plate appearances for four runs, one RBI and two stolen bases in September. While his strikeout rate is still low, he is not creating enough runs or getting on base enough as of late.

Fletcher is a drop while on this cold streak, drop him and find a player currently on a hot streak to help advance your team further in the playoffs.

Chris Taylor, 2B/SS/OF, Los Angeles Dodgers

Taylor is having an awful time at the plate in September. He only has two hits through 34 plate appearances for one run and four RBIs. He is also striking out 10% more in September than his season long average of 28.3%. This is bad timing for Fantasy Managers as the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Playoffs heat up.

Furthermore, he is reported to have a neck injury that will limit his play this week and possibly throughout the end of the season. If Taylor is playing unhealthy or not playing at all then his Fantasy value plummets during this important time.

Fantasy Managers can drop Taylor this week. However, he is a player worth keeping an eye on if he can return healthy the following week.

Cody Bellinger, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers

Bellinger has been the biggest disappointment in Fantasy Baseball this season. His ADP coming into this year was 15th, but his stats resemble that of an undrafted player. He is slashing .157/.233/.290 with 37 runs and 33 RBIs through 318 plate appearances. Worse than all, however, his strikeout rate is a high 27%. This ranks him in the bottom 20% of MLB players in 2021.

Another downfall in Bellinger's play are his steals. He has only recorded two steals in 2021 despite Baseball Savant ranking his sprint speed in the top 75% of MLB. He has also finished with double digit steals three times in his career.

Bellinger might be hard to drop due to his ADP and previous successes, and I understand that, but it's time. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts will give Bellinger a few days off this week. This late in the 2021 Fantasy Baseball season we cannot have players sitting on the bench.

Performance Review

Avisail Garcia, OF, Milwaukee Brewers

Garcia smashed two homers Sunday night in what surely helped move Fantasy Baseball managers along in the playoffs. He has taken his name off the drop list after healing from an injury a week ago. He has back to back games with two hits and at least one run scored.

Raimel Tapia, OF, Colorado Rockies

Tapia recorded only two hits and two runs over 17 plate appearances this week, but did a good job limiting his strikeouts. This is on par with his performance of late and he stays on the 2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 24 Drop List.

Lou Trivino, RP, Oakland Athletics

Trivino has four relief appearances in September and allowed seven earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. The Athletics are seemingly using a committee at closer with Trivino now behind both Andrew Chafin and Sergio Romo. Trivino is a drop for the rest of season.

Randal Grichuk, OF, Toronto Blue Jays

Grichuk has performed well since being placed on the drop list a week ago. He had eight hits in 22 plate appearances for five runs and two RBIs. Grichuk is taken off the drop list after catching fire this week.
