Cowboys‘ Troubles

Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys – Calf Strain (3+ Weeks)

The Dallas Cowboys cannot catch a break. On Thursday, Michael Gallup was solid for Dallas. Before his injury, Gallup was targeted seven times and caught four of them. He also had 36 yards. If he were to have played that full game, Gallup would have easily topped 10+ targets.

If you have Michael Gallup on your team, do not drop him just yet. He should be back in three to four weeks, and you will want to have a piece of this offense moving forward.

In his absence, Cedrick Wilson will be the new #3 receiver. He saw three targets and caught all three of them for 24 yards. I wouldn’t be rushing to go pick him up just yet unless you are in deeper leagues. In 10 or 12 teamers, I would wait and see what he can do. I don’t expect him to get the targets that Gallup leaves behind.

The impact of this injury is simple, to be honest. Amari Cooper(16 targets) and CeeDee Lamb(15 targets) are guaranteed 10+ targets a week. They are going to be WR1’s moving forward, remember that. I also think Dalton Schultz(6/6, 45 yards) deserves a look now. Do not give up on Ezekiel Elliott either, and Tony Pollard also has some value growing. Be on the lookout for that.

Early Game Woes

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Washington Football Team – Hip (TBD)

Ryan Fitzpatrick(3 of 6, 13 yards) went down early in the game with a hip injury, which is terrible news for the Football Team’s playoff hopes. He definitely won’t be playing Thursday against the Giants, and he will probably be missing quite some time. The hip injury is significant, but we won’t know more until the MRI results come in.

Taylor Heinicke is the new signal-caller in Washinton. In Fitzpatrick’s place, Heinicke threw for 122 yards on 11 of 15 passing. He also had one interception. Leave him on the waivers, even in Superflex leagues.

I expect the team to be more run-heavy, which means Antonio Gibson‘s value is going up. Terry McLaurin‘s value is expected to drop a little bit, but I’m still high on him this year. Logan Thomas will be fine as he caught a touchdown from Heinicke today. You can keep plugging him in. I do not want anyone else from this offense.

Team-Hurting Injuries

Raheem Mostert, RB, San Francisco 49ers – Knee (TBD)

Before his injury, Mostert ran the ball twice for twenty yards. In his place, Elijah Mitchell rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch, so I do not know what to make of this backfield moving forward.

As of right now, pick up Elijah Mitchell. He could be the RB1 for the next few weeks, and he looked very good. There is a very good chance we still see Trey Sermon, but nobody knows what the healthy scratch was all about.

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Denver Broncos – High Ankle Sprain (6-8 Weeks)

This one hurts. Jerry Jeudy was enjoying a solid fantasy day on Sunday (13 PPR Points), where he caught six of seven targets for 72 yards. Unfortunately, late in the game, a giants defender landed on Jeudy’s ankle. At first, everyone feared a broken ankle/ACL injury because the cart came out right away.

Luckily, Jeudy only suffered a high ankle sprain. This is still not good for him, but it is better than what it could have been. He will be out for 6+ weeks.

I would take a look at KJ Hamler (3-41) on the waivers. Tim Patrick (4-39-1) also deserves a look. Noah Fant (6-62) is the big winner, he should be peppered with targets (8 targets in Week 1) going forward. As for Courtland Sutton (1-14), I’ve got nothing for you. He is coming off an ACL injury, maybe he just needs time to adjust.

Big Time Injuries to O-Lineman

Jedrick Willis, OL, Cleveland Browns – Ankle (TBD)

Not good news for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns. This also hurts the running game a bit too.

Mekhi Becton, OL, New York Jets – MCL Sprain

Another hit to a young offensive lineman. Zach Wilson loses out on his star LT for at least a couple of weeks.

Injury Scares

  • Tee Higgins left the game on a cart? Turned out, all he needed was an IV.
  • David Montgomery left during the game but came back a few plays later.
  • Diontae Johnson left at one point but made his way back on the field.

I wouldn’t worry about these guys.

Well, that should do it for the 2021 Fantasy Football Week 1 Injury Impact article. See you all next week for Week 2.
