2021 Fantasy Football Week 2 Drop List

It’s tough not to overreact to Week 1 in the NFL. As we look ahead to Week 2 of the Fantasy Football season, let’s try to keep a level head when deciding which players to add to the drop list.

Roster percentages are all over the place right now as teams have been very active dropping late-round picks for a second defense or are currently stashing some rookies and handcuffs just in case.

Let’s take a look at some players that are at least 50% rostered in Yahoo leagues for this first edition of the drop list.

Unfortunately, there were a handful of injuries in Week 1 that will be top priority drops/stashed on the injured list – like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Raheem Mostert, Jerry Jeudy and Michael Gallup.

Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns

I am starting off with Mayfield as he just had quite possibly the juiciest matchup he will have all season, going up against the Kansas City Chiefs. The over/under in this game was 54 points.

Baker is currently the Week 1 QB25 and Lamar Jackson hasn’t even played on Monday Night Football yet. (Update – both Lamar Jackson (despite the fumbles) and Derek Carr (QB10) finished better than Mayfield, knocking him down to QB27. In his defense, Justin Herbert was QB26 this week.) Mayfield did throw for over 300 passing yards and completed 75% of his passes but failed to score a touchdown. The Browns offense is not built to score points through the air.

Yes, he was without Odell Beckham Jr., but I am pretty sure that Fantasy managers don’t believe he is that dynamic playmaker he once was anymore. We also don’t know how many games Odell will play this season.

Next week the Browns play the Houston Texans and Cleveland should be able to keep the ball on the ground for the majority of this one, despite what Tyrod Taylor just did the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. After that, Mayfield goes up against Khalil Mack and the Chicago Bears defense. This Browns offense is not built like Matthew Stafford‘s Los Angeles Rams.

Zack Moss, RB, Buffalo Bills

Zack Moss was a healthy scratch prior to the Buffalo Bills Week 1 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That led to a huge rush of Fantasy managers dropping him. If you haven’t done so already, you might as well join the crowd.

Devin Singletary took 75% of snaps and averaged 6.5 yards per carry on just 11 rushes, but don’t go rushing to add him either. Josh Allen is still the best running back on the Bills, especially in the red zone!

The Bills face the Miami Dolphins and Washington Football Team in the next two weeks. Not exactly great games for Buffalo’s running backs.

Mecole Hardman, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

There is no such thing as a WR2 in the Chiefs offense. Tyreek Hill is the only reliable Fantasy option on the Chiefs depth chart. Patrick Mahomes‘ pass attempts are so heavily targetted toward Hill and Kelce and payoff more often than not, that the offense does not need to incorporate the other guys.

Austin Hooper, TE, Cleveland Browns

The Browns paid Hooper big money last season but they either have failed to use him as the Atlanta Falcons did, or Matt Ryan was just a better Fantasy quarterback than Baker Mayfield.

Hooper led the three Browns tight ends in snaps but David Njoku led the tight ends in targets with five. Collectively there were 10 targets for the position group and Odell Beckham didn’t play. That number will shrink.

Hot Seat

Matt Ryan – What happened to the Atlanta Falcons vs the Eagles?! Let’s hope for Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts sake this was just a bad game.

Sony Michel – Rams aerial assault is so good and Darrell Henderson looked great.

Russell Gage – Two targets and zero catches – the Falcons offense was completely shut down by Philadelphia.

Mike GesickiDurham Smythe played 70% of snaps vs Gesicki’s 40%. Both had just two targets but Gesicki did not catch either one.
