2021 Fantasy Football Week 5 Injury Impact

Welcome, all to the 2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 Injury Impact article. As always, I will be going over the most impactful injuries that have gone down in Week three.

But first, let's talk about the injuries that kept some players from suiting up on Sunday. There was a gaggle of superstar/star fantasy players that missed Sunday due to injuries.

Dalvin Cook (Ankle), Josh Jacobs (toe/ankle), Tee Higgins (shoulder), and Diontae Johnson (knee) are just to name a few.

You also have Tua Tagovailoa (ribs), Antonio Brown (COVID), and of course, San Francisco's running backs (Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty).

That should do it for the injuries going into Week 3. Let's jump into the injuries that went down on Sunday.

Here Come's the Hamstring Injuries

The dreaded hamstring injury has come back in full force in Week three.

Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers - (Out 1-3 weeks)

What a rough day (Thursday) for people who drafted Christian McCaffrey. He exited the game after rushing the ball seven times for 31 yards. C-Mac also caught two balls for nine yards. It is looking like he is going to miss at least a few weeks, so you should be looking for replacement options. I'm sure you went and got Chuba Hubbard (11-52, 5/3-27 yards), but that won't be enough. Try and find someone on the waiver wire.

Moving forward, this should be a timeshare between Hubbard and Royce Freeman.

A.J. Brown, WR, Tennessee Titans- (Exited in 1st, Didn't return)

I'm hoping it was only a minor hamstring injury. Still, if you have A.J. Brown expect at least one week to be missed. Monitor the situation in the coming weeks. Before exiting, A.J. Brown had two targets and caught zero of them.

If he is gone for a couple of weeks, expect Julio Jones to eat. He had a rough day today (Four targets, three catches for 47 yards), but this won't be a reoccurring theme. Derrick Henry received three targets and caught all of them for 31 yards. Expect that to keep happening with Brown out. As for anyone else on the roster, don't be rostering them.

Sterling Shepard, WR, New York Giants - (Exited in 1st, Didn't return)

Three targets, two catches for 16 yards before exiting with his hamstring injury. This could be a big blow for fantasy managers who were relying on Shephard's early success (24, and 17 FPTS).

Expect more work for Evan Engram (Six targets, two catches for 21 yards), Kenny Golladay (Five targets, four catches for 64 yards), and hopefully Kadarius Toney (Three targets, two catches for 16 yards). Collin Johnson could even see more work (Seven targets, five catches for 51 yards).

Darius Slayton, WR, New York Giants - (Exited in 1st, Didn't return)

One target, one catch for eight yards before exiting the game. Leave him on the waiver wire. Hopefully, none of you had to start him this week.

What's going on with the Ribs?

Tua, Henderson Jr., and Amari Cooper are just a few players that are dealing with rib injuries right now. This week we get another one added to the list.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers - Ribs (Ruled out)

Three targets, three catches for 25 yards before exiting with his rib injury. This is another big loss for fantasy managers. Juju wasn't lighting the fantasy world on fire, but he was dependable. There is no news on the severity of the rib injury as of right now, so please monitor the situation.

The impact of this injury was evident in the Steelers' loss to the Bengals. Najee Harris was targeted 19 times. Let me say that again. Najee Harris was targeted 19 times and he caught 14 of them for 102 yards. If you have Najee Harris, this is a goldmine. Chase Claypool garnered 15 targets and caught 9 of them for 96 yards. If Schuster and Johnson miss time, Claypool could vault himself into WR2 territory. Najee is looking at RB1 territory, no doubt.

In other news for the Steelers, Pat Freiermuth received five targets and caught three of them for 22 yards and a touchdown. He could see more targets moving forward, along with James Washington (Five targets, three catches for 20 yards).

QB Scare

Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers, Hand) should be good to go. Justin Fields (QB, Chicago Bears) also hurt his hand, but he is going to be fine.

Other Injury News/Scares

  • Rob Gronkowski (TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - Injured his back, but came back to play. Monitor the situation.
  • Tyler Lockett (WR, Seattle Seahawks) - Injured his knee. He returned to the game though. Monitor this injury in the coming weeks.
  • James White (RB, New England Patriots) - James White was ruled out indefinitely after injuring his hip. This could be more work for Damien Harris.
  • Elijah Moore (WR, New York Jets) was evaluated for a head injury. He caught three balls on six targets for 22 yards.

That should do it for the 2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 Injury Impact article.
