2021 MiLB Prospect Notes 6-17-21

Welcome back to the 6-17-21 edition of our 2021 MiLB Prospect Notes. The minor league season is in full swing.

Since this is the first time that most prospects have played in real games since 2019, the results have been more revealing and meaningful than normal.

This week I will look at prospects that have stood out and list them in categories with five to ten prospects.  This exercise provides a summary of prospects whose value has seen a change in the six weeks since the minor league season began on May 4th.

2021 MiLB Prospect Notes 6-17-21

Leap Forward

These prospects have shown significant improvement since we have last seen them and are potential impact prospects in the near future.

Shane Baz, Hunter Greene, and Oswald Pereza were recently promoted.

Rebounded From a Poor Season

In some of these cases, a weakness was exposed in 2019 and the prospect was able to fix the issue at an alternate training site or instructional league setting.

Nick Pratto was the hero of the 2011 Little League World Series.

Pop Up Prospects

This list is of prospects that were off the radar prior to the season and have emerged in 2021 as a real prospect.

Samad Taylor is on 40 Homer, 50 pace.  He was acquired from the Indians for Joe Smith who pitched 18.1 innings for Cleveland.

Major League Struggles

This group has had a lot of success in the minors and have gotten called up to the majors, but did not do well.

Owen Miller struck out 14.9 percent of the times in his minor league career.  Since his major league call up, Miller has struck out 47.9 percent of the time.

They proved themselves prior to 2021 but this year have shown that their high rankings are deserved.

Wander Franco is the youngest player in AAA.  His strikeout percentage is 11.3 percent.  Franco lead AAA in extra base hits.

If so many prospects are moving up the rankings, some prospects have to move down.

Despite allowing 29 earned runs in 32.1 innings in AAA in 2021, Matt Manning is expected to make his major league debut on June 18th.

These teenagers are looking to follow in the footsteps of Acuna, Vlad Jr and Tatis.

Eury Perez, who is listed at 6'8" turned eighteen less than a month before the season began. Perez has allowed two earner runs in 25 innings pitched.

Nagging Injuries

There are prospects that are out for the year due to a major injury. However, these prospects have lost a good part of the early season with nagging injuries.

Jordyn Adams, who was my breakout pick, finally returned to action on June 15th.  He had been out since the third game of the season.

2018 Draft Standouts

Despite going into their fourth season as a pro, 2018 draft picks have only played one full year of games.

High School

Nolan Gorman, who recently hit seven homers in a five game stretch, has made eleven starts at second base this year.

2019 Draft Standouts

Prior to this season, 2019 draft picks only played a partial season after the draft as a pro.

High School

Nobody in minor league baseball has double figures home runs and steals.  Bobby Witt Jr just needs steals to get to ten stolen bases.  He already has eleven homers.

2020 Draft Standouts

Obviously for 2020 draft picks, the 2021 season is their introduction to professional games

High School

Jordan Walker just returned from an injury and picked up right where he left off.  He has a surprisingly advanced approach.
