2021 NFL Mock Draft: Final Four Edition

on

The last time we met, Bob, Jon, Kyle and Selyan shared their first-round mock drafts ahead of the Super Bowl. Since then, the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles traded draft picks to shake up the first round. Below is an updated 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Final Four Edition!

QB Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) will be drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

There are serious question marks surrounding the New York Jets pick (2nd overall). If they decide Justin Fields (Ohio St.) or Zach Wilson (BYU) are the future of their franchise, where will they trade Sam Darnold and what value does he hold?

What will Gang Green do with their second first-round pick at pick 23?

The Niners are clearly targeting a quarterback after trading up to land the 3rd overall pick, but is it Justin Fields, Zach Wilson or Mac Jones ?

Do the Atlanta Falcons look for Matt Ryan‘s replacement with the fourth pick or look to add a playmaker like TE Kyle Pitts (Florida)?

What will the Miami Dolphins do now that they traded back from three and landed in the sixth slot. They also have the 18th pick.

Bob’s Notes

  • Jaycee Horn is probably my biggest riser from the previous draft. He’s now my CB1 in the class. Quite frankly I just love his upside and I don’t see much for flaws in his game
  • While Horn is on the rise Ja’Marr Chase is falling. There’s no specific reason or hatred I hold for Chase, it’s just that WRs are quite frequently overrated in mock drafts. When realistically they tend to fall.
  • Kwity Paye to the Chargers has been my favorite “mock lock” from the start. Having him slot in across from Joey Bosa, as a strong run defender and someone that needs to improve his pass-rushing. Which is something I believe he’ll be able to accomplish under new Head Coach and defensive mind Brandon Staley.

Jon’s Notes

  • Kyle Pitts just destroyed his pro day, proving the freak of an athlete he is. I believe he is the top non-QB prospect in this draft and he does not fall past the Falcons at 4. Pitts should thrive in the pass-heavy offense that the Falcons run.
  • Terrace Marshall Jr. jumps into the first round this time around, going to the Ravens towards the end of the first-round. He is often forgotten about while everyone is talking about the big four (Smith, Waddle, Chase, Batemon) but he put up really good numbers at LSU
  • Caleb Farley falls out of my first round mock due to his back surgery

Kyle’s Notes

  • After trading up to the third overall pick, it’s no secret that the 49ers may be looking to improve its QB room. With Jimmy Garappolo missing a total of 26 games in the past three seasons, his durability and future with the team are in question. Making the move for a QB like Trey Lance may give them flexibility for now and for later. They may take the win-now approach with Jimmy while they let Lance sit behind him and groom. But in case the injury-prone QB does end up falling plague to his past once again, the 49ers have insurance in a young fresh QB out of North Dakota who hasn’t played a true football game in over two years.
  • Moving from the sixth pick to the 12th pick came with a lot of people questioning and wondering what exactly are the Eagles thinking. Some love the trade (me), others hate the trade, and some just remain impartial. But one thing is clear, the Eagles need help on the offensive side of the ball. What better to spark life and help second-year QB Jalen Hurts than to bring in the Heisman Trophy winning WR from Alabama. The Eagles lack receiving options after recently cutting DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey. It is a clear sign the team is moving in a different direction at the position. Smith makes a ton of sense and fills what is perceived to be the biggest hole on the Eagles depth chart.

Selyan’s Notes

  • The Giants no longer need to prioritize drafting a playmaker early after adding WR Kenny Golladay via free agency. This may be an opportunity to trade down, given the way the board shaped out ahead of them. Here the Giants choose to address their pass rush issues. Phillips is extremely talented with freakish athletic traits. It’s a swing for the fences given his medical history, but his film is top-15 worthy.
  • The Chargers get exceptional value on Rashawn Slater, as he would be worthy of a top-10 pick. They have glaring needs all across their offensive line, and Slater provides positional flexibility. Lack of length is only an issue on paper as it truly hasn’t shown up on film much. He’ll get his shot to shine at left tackle, and at worst, shift to a role inside with All-Pro potential.
  • Given the lack of upper-tier talent in the edge rusher class, the right order for the Jets to attack their pass defense may be to draft a defensive back first, followed by addressing the pass rush. Eric Stokes is a future star, with stellar athleticism, fluid changes of direction and mirror skills in off-man and speed to make plays downfield. His shutdown career at Georgia should translate to the NFL.
  • The Chiefs shocked the NFL world after letting go of both of their star offensive tackles – Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz. Especially after the pass-protection disaster that was the Super Bowl. They were able to sign Joe Thuney, but Spencer Brown is an athletic, high upside pass protector with stellar footwork, finish and power in the run game.
