Daily Leagues

Daily leagues have it easy this week.  There are between six and nine games each day.  The lack of a weak games day means there are ample waiver grabs available, and you don't have to target a specific day. If you have a streamer spot handy, simply target the best available pickups on your wire each day.  If you have a pickup or a games limit, here are some of the best grabs under 50% rostered in Yahoo leagues:

  • Victor Oladipo: Could it be? His numbers since returning have been steadily trending up, and he is a top 100 player in the last week behind 19 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 4.0 APG, with 1.5 steals and 2.8 three-pointers.
  • Deandre Hunter: While inconsistent, Hunter can put up across-the-board numbers any night.  He's been great in the past two weeks.
  • Quentin Grimes: He has cemented himself in the Knicks' starting lineup, and he shouldn't be available in 60% of leagues.  Grab him now. He's a Top 75 player in the last 30 days.
  • Jalen McDaniels: He will get a ton of opportunity with Kelly Oubre and Gordon Hayward both out of the lineup.

Weekly Leagues

In weekly leagues, there are 16 teams with a three-game slate, 13 teams with four games, and a single team (the Brooklyn Nets) with two games. There are only a few back-to-backs scheduled that might be of consequence. The Atlanta Hawks have a back-to-back on a three-game week, which means even if Clint Capela returns from his calf strain, he won't get more than two games.

The Milwaukee Bucks also play back-to-back and have shown a willingness to rest their starters on a few occasions this season.  Other than that, the usual rest candidates (Kawhi Leonard) don't have dangerous schedules.

Team to Avoid

The Brooklyn Nets play just two games, against the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been so good that they are still must-starts on a two-game week.  Nicolas Claxton depends on who your replacement options are. If you have a strong four-game center you could roll the dice with, it's probably worthwhile.

Targets like Al Horford, Jalen Duren, and Bobby Portis each get four matchups. Beyond the big three of KD, Kyrie and Claxton, I wouldn't touch anyone else on the Nets during this two-game slate, Ben Simmons included.

Team to Target

The Philadelphia 76ers have a sweet four-game week. They face the Pistons, Thunder, Jazz, and Lakers. That means they go against two of the four worst defenses in the league (Pistons and Jazz), and the other two are 12th and 17th overall.

If Joel Embiid is back from his foot injury, he should be huge. If he continues to sit, James Harden and friends will be even better than usual.  Tyrese Maxey is ramping it up.  DeAnthony Melton is still showing signs of value. And Tobias Harris continues to chug along with top-60 value.  Montrezl Harell may even be worth an add in deeper leagues.

Injury News

Back Soon

  • Gordon Hayward, SF, CHA - Hayward is officially day-to-day but remains on the doubtful side of playing.  It sounds like a week 13 return is possible.
  • Andrew Wiggins, SF, GSW - He's back!
  • Stephen Curry, PG, GSW - He's back soon! Practicing in 5-on-5. Should be ready to roll any day now.
  • Paul George, SG, LAC - They haven't made a big deal of it. They call him questionable to play, so I have to list him as back soon. But with a recurrent hamstring strain, I wouldn't be surprised to see PG13 sit for a few weeks.
  • Anthony Edwards, SG, MIN - A strained hip might cause him to miss a few games, but it doesn't sound serious.
  • Brandon Ingram, SF, NOP - Ingram says he will return in the next 5 games! Finally!
  • RJ Barrett, SG, NYK - A finger injury has kept him on the bench, but he'll be back in the next week or so.
  • Joel Embiid, C, PHI - Embiid hurt his foot.  Doc Rivers says it's not serious, but also can't give a timeline for a return.  Sounds like he'll miss a few more.
  • Chris Paul, PG, PHX - A hip injury in the old man could mean he misses a game or a month.  Let's wait for more information.
  • Bradley Beal, SG, WAS - It sounds like a mild hamstring strain, and he is due to miss another week.

Out a While

  • Clint Capela, C, ATL - The lack of a timeline is frustrating. With Capela being ruled out a day in advance lately, I would assume he's out at least another week or two.
  • Kelly Oubre, SG, CHA - Oubre had surgery on his hand and will miss 4-6 weeks.
  • Anthony Davis,  PF, LAL - With the Lakers winning games without AD, they won't rush him back.  He probably has another 2 weeks before a return.
  • Khris Middleton, SF, MIL - Ugh.  Who knows?
  • Karl-Anthony Towns, C, MIN - It seems his recovery has not gone to plan.  His return is now sounding like early February.
  • Zion Williamson, PF, NOP - Zion will miss at least 3 weeks with a hamstring strain, and it sounds like it will probably be more.
  • Aleksej Pokusevski, F, OKC - A fractured leg means 6-8 weeks out.  Probably won't have much value the rest of the season for the tanking Thunder.
  • Devin Vassell, SG, SAS - Will be out until after the all-star break following endoscopic knee surgery.
