2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Analytics

by Mark B

Welcome to the 2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Analytics article.

In this week’s article, we will be looking at a few individuals who have shown up in the fourth quarter and are leaders in (total) points during those twelve minutes.

While I won’t speak about him in this article, Stephen Curry is currently 101st in the league in fourth-quarter minutes (6.9 minutes per game) and first in the league in the fourth-quarter total points (8.45ppg – 169 pts). I am just shouting out the GOAT NBA shooter!

2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Week 8 Analytics

Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks, PG/SG

Brunson ranks sixth in fourth-quarter points at 6.5ppg (130 pts). The Knicks needed a closer and have signed a great one in JB. While the Knicks are right outside the play-ins, Jalen makes them a dangerous team in the fourth. All season long, Brunson has been among the Knicks' top offensive players and that should not change going forward.

Recently, Brunson did roll his left ankle. The point guard came back after getting re-taped, but he hasn't seemed like himself. He might have to tend to the ankle if things don’t improve but the Knicks really can’t afford to miss his impact on their game. Brunson will have streakiness this year but his good games will shine bright!

Anfernee Simons, Portland Trailblazers, PG/SG

Simons is ranked seventh in fourth-quarter points at 7.1ppg (128 pts). While Damian Lillard (calf) has been out for the previous seven games, Simons has embraced a primary role on offense.

Simons' offense has recently been on fire; he has scored at least 37 points in three of his previous five games and averages just over five made three-pointers per game. He is averaging 29.4 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.7 triples per game during the total time Dame has been out.

He has been especially good during the fourth quarter where his team has relied on him very heavily. Simons seems to have the maturity needed to lead a team and to help Dame out.

Bennedict Mathurin, Indiana Pacers, SG/SF

This rookie has simply been amazing this year. On a team filled with guards, Mathurin still finds a way to make himself relevant to be played. BM currently ranks ninth in fourth-quarter points at 6.7ppg (127 pts).

For a team that has no incentive to win, the Arizona product is making a case to be the future of the Pacers.  If Benny is producing fourth-quarter points like this in his rookie season, can you imagine what he might be capable of further down the road? The sky is the limit with the Mathurin though he could be a shutdown candidate if Indiana makes a move for picks and decides to tank.
