Welcome back to the 2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Weekly Planner! Most teams have less than 20 games remaining in the regular season, and hockey season is, unfortunately, coming to an end. Let's make sure we enjoy it while we can!
Week 23 could be a make-or-break week for a number of different teams, as we are within weeks of the playoffs and teams are making their final pushes to solidify their chances. The week also features a few premier matchups.
There will be two matchups this week between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, who continue to fight for their playoff lives. Sticking with the Metropolitan division, we will see an intense matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New Jersey Devils. Four points separate the two teams in their battle for the division lead.
Let's not wait any longer, and let's dive into the new week! Here is the 2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Weekly Planner.

Top Targets
Ivan Barbashev, Center/Left Wing, Vegas Golden Knights (41% Rostered)
The trade deadline saw the Golden Knights acquire their new first-line winger, as Ivan Barbashev has been a perfect fit in Vegas. Barbashev comes over after six and a half years in St. Louis and has provided two goals and three assists through four games with his new team. Additionally, the 27-year-old is being rewarded with powerplay time for the foreseeable future. Look for Ivan Barbashev to continue the positive play in his new home.
Rasmus Sandin, Defense, Washington Capitals (40% Rostered)
Rasmus Sandin played 29:58 last night, the most minutes he's ever played in a game—and the most by any @Capitals player since John Carlson in 2018.
Sandin's three games with Washington are the 1st, 2nd, and 10th most minutes he's played in an NHL game.#NHL | #Capitals pic.twitter.com/wcfM8rQ2n8

It may have been a shocking move for the Maple Leafs to move Rasmus Sandin at the trade deadline, but the move has already been deemed a success. Following the trade, Sandin moved to the Capitals' top defensive unit alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk and immediately found the score sheet.
Sandin has recorded a goal and four assists through his first three games with the new team, while also setting some personal time-on-ice records. If you are in need of a defenseman that seemingly never comes off the ice, Sandin is your guy.
Alex Killorn, Left Wing/Right Wing, Tampa Bay Lightning (31% Rostered)
Alex Killorn has been an underrated piece of Tampa Bay's success for the past 10 years, and he isn't showing any signs of slowing down. The 33-year-old is up to 49 points on the year and is on the verge of setting his career-high in points. He also remains a fixture on the team's top powerplay unit alongside Point, Kucherov, and Stamkos so the points will continue to come for Killorn.
If your fantasy team needs some help in terms of points, look for this guy who gets to play with some of the best players in the league on a nightly basis!
Nino Niederreiter, Left Wings, Winnipeg Jets (30% Rostered)
Another player that has found immediate success in a new home is Nino Niederreiter! Niederreiter came over at the deadline from the Predators and has immediately filled a void on the team's first line. He has played alongside Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele and added one goal and three assists through the first four games.
The Jets are hanging on to the final Wild Card spot in the West, and their top line is going to have to step things up if they want to get their shot in a playoff series. Nino Niederreiter has the veteran presence and playoff experience to help them make this possible.
Injury Alerts
Ryan O'Reilly, Center, Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that Ryan O'Reilly has been placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve on Monday. O'Reilly, recently acquired by Toronto, was able to record five points through eight games with his new team before exiting Sunday's game with a broken finger.
At this point, the Leafs are expecting O'Reilly will be out until at least March 29. Unfortunately, there is a real possibility that he may miss the rest of the regular season.
Antti Raanta, Goalie, Carolina Hurricanes
Antti Raanta exited Tuesday's game with an undisclosed injury, and the Hurricanes have not provided much of an update on Raanta. Coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters "We're hopeful it's not too series, but we'll see". Given the Canes situation racing for the Metro division title, they are hoping to get their #1 goalie back soon.
Kirill Kaprizov, Left Wing, Minnesota Wild
After an ugly collision on Wednesday night, the Minnesota Wild announced that they will be without Kirill Kaprizov for 3-4 weeks. The specifics of the injury haven't been determined, but the lower body occurred when Jets' defenseman Logan Stanley fell on him trying to make a play. We hope the best for Kaprizov, who will be key to the Wild's success moving forward.
Victor Hedman, Defense, Tampa Bay Lightning
Victor Hedman suffered an undisclosed injury during Sunday's game against the Hurricanes. No updates have been provided on the injury suffered by Hedman, but it has been two straight games without their top defenseman in the lineup.
It is unknown if Hedman will be ready for either game this weekend, but the Lightning will need him back as they continue to jockey with the Leafs for the #2 spot in the Atlantic division.
Team Worth Watching This Week
Nashville Predators
A team that is looking to will their way into the playoffs right now is the Nashville Predators. With the Kings, Ducks, Red Wings, and Blackhawks on the horizon, Week 23 looks like this could be a week where the Preds can make a serious push.
The Predators sit six points out of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, while they have three games in hand against the teams they are chasing. Three out of the four teams they will see during Week 23 are behind them in terms of points, and this week should favor Nashville heavily.
Although they were deemed to be sellers at the trade deadline (Traded Nino Niederreiter, Tanner Jeannot, Mikael Granlund, and Mattias Ekholm), the Predators remain a threat in the West. This week will ultimately decide whether this team has what it takes to play playoff games, or if they will start their offseason sooner than expected.
