2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Week 5 Weekly Planner

Does anyone think hockey season is starting to move too fast? Because here we are, back with our 2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Week 5 Weekly Planner!

We are almost a month into the 2022-23 NHL season, and we have the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and the Seattle Kraken sitting comfortably in playoff positions at this time. Did anybody have these three teams on their bingo board? The Bruins and Golden Knights continue to win, the Penguins continue to blow leads, and the Blue Jackets continue to lose.

Our Week 5 Planner sees two teams heading overseas, where the Colorado Avalanche will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in Finland on Friday, November 4, and Saturday, November 5. We see another installment in the rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins, where the Leafs look to snap the B's hot streak. Speaking of rivalries, this week features one that has gone back 18 years now with Sidney Crosby and the Pens traveling to Washington to face Alex Ovechkin.

A lot of eyes will be on Buffalo this Thursday, as we will see the return of former captain Jack Eichel for the first time in his former arena. I am sure the Buffalo faithful will welcome him back and reminisce on the good times that they shared together (I'm just kidding, of course. I think we all know how Buffalo feels about Eichel by now).

An action-packed week lies ahead of us, so let's dive in to see who we should be keeping an eye on with this week's 2022-23 Fantasy Hockey Week 5 Weekly Planner.

November 5, 2022 - November 11, 2022

Top Targets

Anders Lee, Left Wing, New York Islanders (55% Rostered)

The Islanders captain is starting off 2022 like never before, so be sure to give him an extra look if you find his name in free agency. Anders Lee has points in four straight games while tallying twelve points over the team's first eleven games. This kind of point production may not last throughout an entire season, but right now he is a fantastic option to add as he will continue to get good looks playing alongside Brock Nelson and Anthony Beauvillier.

Jeff Skinner, Left Wing, Buffalo Sabres (42% Rostered)

A big part of the Buffalo Sabres' hot start to the season has been thanks to the production of their top forward line. Jeff Skinner, along with Tage Thompson and Kyle Okposo, has found an offensive groove early in the season and we hope you have them represented in your fantasy lineup! Skinner is actively riding a four-game point streak, bringing two goals and eight assists to the table during the stretch. Is it too good to be true to last over an 82-game season? I don't think so! With this first line's play so far, the Sabres should be sticking around for the foreseeable future after a number of down years.

Brady Skjei, Defense, Carolina Hurricanes (31% Rostered)

There is nothing like a defenseman that can add offensive value to your fantasy team! Brady Skjei can do just that, along with adding some other defensive points to your lineup. Skjei has six points through the team's first ten games while getting 24 shots on net from the back end. He also adds a couple of hits per game along with blocked shots, so Skjei is a fantastic addition to your team that can help out in more categories than one.

Jonathan Toews, Center, Chicago Blackhawks (18% Rostered)

Another person riding a hot streak early in the 2022 season is Jonathan Toews, who is looking to rebound after a few slow seasons. Captain Serious has helped the Blackhawks get off to a great start, turning many of the preseason predictions upside down. The 34-year-old  is currently centering the team's second line, flanked by Philipp Kurashev and Taylor Raddysh. Toews is currently sitting on a seven-game point streak, so be sure to add the man if you are looking for some fantasy help right now.

Injury Alerts

Jeremy Swayman, Goalie, Boston Bruins

The Bruins may be without one-half of their goalie tandem for a period of time after Jeremy Swayman was the victim of friendly fire on Tuesday night. Swayman came on in relief of Linus Ullmark against the Penguins but soon returned to the locker room after a collision with captain Patrice Bergeron. He is considered week-to-week with a leg injury, and the Bruins will definitely miss his presence between the pipes.

John Carlson, Defense, Washington Capitals

After being injured in a game last weekend against the Hurricanes, the Washington Capitals have placed John Carlson on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. Carlson is still considered day-to-day with the injury, but the Caps hope that he will return to the lineup sooner rather than later.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Edmonton Oilers

Have the Oilers finally constructed a team that is built for a deep playoff run? It is likely too early to know, but right now the Oilers are cooking. Week 5 sees the Oilers head to the east coast, where they will have a couple of winnable games against opponents that have yet to get it going. Good luck stopping Connor McDavid right now, who is casually on pace to his 89 goals this season. (Of course, he won't actually hit this number. Or will he?)
