2022 College Football Picks

I've incorporated ELO ratings to try and alleviate the bad run between Week 7 and Week 8. It's part of the process. In the betting world, you're going to have rough patches. You ride it out, make necessary adjustments, and stay the course.

Trust the process.

Like week 7, week 8 in college football was also fun to watch. Syracuse almost continued their unbeaten season and beat Clemson @ Clemson. Oklahoma St found a way to beat Texas. Oregon continues to flex and handled UCLA and of course, TCU got it done against Kansas St.

There were lucky breaks, bad beats, and everything in between. Let's right the ship and paddle through the rough waters together in week 9 which features another slate of intriguing games.

  • #2 Ohio St (7-0) at #13 Penn St (6-1)
  • #9 Oklahoma St (6-1) at #22 Kansas St (5-2)
  • Florida (4-3) at #1 Georgia (7-0)
  • #19 Kentucky (5-2) at #3 Tennessee (7-0)

East Carolina Pirates @ BYU Cougars

This is not a game I normally like to attack. East Carolina is traveling cross country to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars. It's a tough situation for the Pirates, but the Cougars have been wildly less than impressive since the start of the season.

It's not completely BYU's fault that they've fallen to 4-4. They've suffered a lot of injuries and still are recovering in key positions. But, this is primarily on the offensive side. Injuries can't explain how putrid this defense has been.

BYU is getting gashed through the ground and through the air. They're 95th in yards per play and Liberty and Arkansas both had their way with the BYU run defense. East Carolina also has a weapon in the backfield in Keaton Mitchell. The 5'9'' Mitchell is averaging 6.8 yards a carry so far this season and has slithered his way 8 TD's. He's already on pace to beat his 1,000-yard rushing season from last year and we should expect more of the same in today's game.

Not only that, East Carolina has an impressive, under-the-radar QB in Holton Ahlers. Ahlers is completing 70% of his passes, has an 18:5 TD:INT ratio, and has a career-best 156.1 QB rating. East Carolina is going to put up points in Provo.

I have East Carolina as a 2.3 point favorite, as opposed to being an underdog and this is one of the biggest advantages on my card. The early money and market would agree that this number is slightly too big, even for the tough situation and elevation in Provo. It's time to back the Pirates to plunder the Cougars in a hostile atmosphere

The Play: East Carolina +3.5 and East Carolina ML +120
