2022 Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week: Mid-Year Review

Welcome back to another 2022 Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer. My baseball summer is shambles. The Sox suck and I am genuinely so sad. On a happier note, I will be seeing music legend Elton John at Gillette tonight!

The trade deadline is coming, and like everyone else, I am excited to see if the great Juan Soto will be dealt!

Before we get started, you know the deal! It's time for my shameless plug for the On Deck Circle Podcast and my guy Dave's Dynasty Baseball Rankings.

Let's get this going, and start talking about Mets slugger Pete Alonso

The Polar Bear

Pete has been a power guy for his whole career with home run totals of 53, 16 (57 games), 37, and he currently has 26. He has been hammering the ball this season with 87th percentile in hard hit % while barreling the ball in the 90th percentile. Going into this season, he was usually hitting around .260, while this season, he is up to .281.

To start his career, he was selling out for homers and not focused on just getting base hits. This season he is setting a pace on more hits than he has had up to this point in his career.

The Other Guy in NY

Pete is quietly putting together an MVP-caliber season for the Mets. He is not putting up the gaudy numbers that Judge is putting up, but he is no slouch. He has driven in a monstrous 84 runs and an OBP of .357. Though these numbers are great, I believe Pete is undervalued. He is a top-three dynasty first baseman for me, and I think some people may think otherwise.

At first, we have Vlad, Riley, Freeman, and with his fantastic season Goldy. I am very comfortable having Pete Over all of those guys. I am not saying I would trade Vlad for Pete straight up, but the production is there so a Vlad for Pete+ would be a great way to use an asset to get two other assets without losing the show.

Dynasty verdict

I love Pete! Pete is a great hitter, and has consistently hit tanks since he was a major leaguer. The consistency is excellent, and the uptick in average is why I am all over Alonso.

I hope everyone enjoys the week and survives the trade deadline!
