2022 Dynasty Baseball Player of The Week

Welcome back to another week of out 2022 Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week series.

Last week we looked at Cardinals infielder Nolan Gorman, check that out here.

Some of the readers here may know how much of a big Celtics fan I am. They are currently in a dogfight series in the NBA Finals vs the Warriors.

With that being said I have been slacking watching baseball or consuming baseball content. However, there is one guy that has caught my attention. That one player is Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara! He has been absolutely dealing this season and thus he is our subject this week!

Before we get started, it's time for my shameless plug for the On Deck Circle Podcast and my guy Dave's Dynasty Rankings.

Sandy was always a name we paid attention to in dynasty circles. He was one of the most significant pieces in the Marcel Ozuna deal, and one that had some hype when he was a prospect on the Cardinals.

He has gotten better with each year of starting, and we are seeing that payoff this season.

Life is a beach; I'm just playing in the Sand(y)

Let's take a moment to appreciate the horns in this song that brought me back to high school and inspired this header.

Before this season on the On Deck Circle podcast, we went over our pre-season Cy Young predictions. I decided to go with our guy Sandy, and he seems to be making me look brilliant thus far.

Let's take a look at what he's done so far this season. Sandy has started 13 games so far, and has a record of 6-2, and holds ten quality starts. He holds an ERA of 1.68 with a WHIP that is sub-one, at 0.96. In 91 total innings, he has 82 strikeouts that are good for an 8.08 K/9.

In his last seven starts, he is 4-0, with an ERA of 0.81, and a WHIP of 0.74. Sandy is on an absolute heater right now and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Dynasty Outlook

Sandy has been the workhorse of the MLB thus far. As of this writing, he is the innings leader in the bigs with 91. He is third in innings since 2019, only trailing Zack Wheeler and Gerrit Cole.

With that being said, I am a sucker for a guy who can play every five days. Sandy is reliable until he is not; I will be riding this horse until he proves me otherwise. He very well might be the SP3 going into next season.

Currently, it would be next to impossible to buy Sandy, but hey, might as well try!
