2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Drop List

2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Drop List

This week on the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Drop List we have a corner infield delight. Two first basemen and one third baseman make this week's drop list.

Opposite of a chocolate delight dessert, these three players haven't been sweet to Fantasy managers this year.

Fantasy Baseball managers should cut ties with Justin Turner, Yuli Gurriel, and Eric Hosmer. Turner and Gurriel are dropped due to their lack of production all season. Hosmer, on the other hand, is a drop due to his recent poor production. He had an amazing start to the season but quickly slowed down during May and has failed to pick it back up in June.

The production that these highly rostered corner infielders have provided is below-average at best, so here are some corner infielders to consider adding instead. Nathaniel Lowe, Seth Brown, and Jake Burger have been swinging a hot bat and are big improvements over the three drops.

Be sure to read the Performance Review section to find out which catcher from last week performed well enough to make it off the drop list.

Turner has the highest roster percentage of these players despite having the worst statistics. It's hard to move on from a player that has been as successful as Turner. From 2014 to 2021 Turner slashed .298/.379/.498 with a 139 wRC+. He belted 199 doubles, and 143 home runs while scoring 507 runs, and driving in 493 RBIs.

This season, he's slashing .211/.281/.348 with just an 80 wRC+. His hard-hit rate (37.7%) is currently the lowest it's been since 2018 while his strikeout rate (17.2%) is his highest since 2014. His play this season has made him droppable in 12-team leagues and possibly even 14-team leagues. However, his roster percentage is 85%, good for 13th among third base eligible players.

It's fair that Fantasy Baseball managers have given Turner extra time to turn things around, but they're growing impatient with the veteran third baseman. He continues to lose value every day and his roster percentage is expected to fall below 80% this week.

Yuli Gurriel, 1B, Houston Astros

Gurriel is making his second appearance on the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Drop List. His first came during week 5 when he was slashing .196/.237/.315. At the time his roster percentage sat at 71%, now it's just 59%. While his roster percentage has already dropped some, it should drop even lower this week.

Gurriel has been able to raise his slash line to .223/.277/.360, but still these numbers aren't great and Gurriel is still a drop. His wRC+ (85) is still below the league average of 100. His strikeout rate (14.2%) is solid but still worse than his career average. Gurriel's stats place him outside the top-30 first basemen this season and Fantasy managers should drop him until he plays his way back in.

Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

As mentioned above, Hosmer is struggling at the plate recently. Since May 15 he's slashing .186/.239/.221 in 92 plate appearances with just three runs and one RBI. Despite these awful numbers Hosmer's season-long numbers still look good. However, if he continues playing like this, they won't be looking good for long.

Fantasy Managers have already been dropping the Padres first baseman quickly as his roster percentage is just 59%. Unless Hosmer turns it around quickly, his roster percentage will likely fall below 50%. Don't wait to drop Hosmer but keep a close watch in case he starts up a hot streak.

Performance Review

Connor Joe, DH/OF/1B, Colorado Rockies

Joe had a rough week at the plate that ended with a three-strikeout day on Sunday. He recorded just six hits and four walks in 33 plate appearances. Joe stays on the drop list until he can bounce back.

Yasmani Grandal, C, Chicago White Sox

Grandal recorded six hits and four RBIs in just 15 plate appearances this week. However, it wasn't all good news as his strikeout rate was up to 26.7%. These numbers are great to see from Grandal, who has struggled to drive in runs this season.

Unfortunately, Grandal missed the game on Sunday due to a hamstring injury that occurred the day before. After the injury, it's a wait-and-see approach for Grandal. If the White Sox place him on the injured list, then Fantasy managers can stash him. But if this injury holds him out a few days without an injured list stint, he can be dropped.

Adley Rutschman, C, Baltimore Orioles

Rutschman had an up-and-down week. He impressed by hitting three doubles and scoring three runs in 17 plate appearances. However, he was unable to drive in any RBIs and ended the week hitless with three strikeouts on Sunday.

Rutschman showed some pop this week, but he remains on the drop list. I'm more interested in the rookie catcher in Atlanta, William Contreras. Rutschman had the number one prospect pedigree, but Contreras is already showing to be the best young catcher in MLB.

Sean Murphy, C, Oakland Athletics

Murphy enjoyed a solid play in the batter's box this week when he hit two home runs and scored three runs and three RBIs in 24 plate appearances. His lone bad game this week was going 0-for-4 on Sunday.

Murphy showed enough to make his way off the drop list, but if he starts to struggle again don't be afraid to drop him.
