2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 14 Hitting Planner

Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Hitting Planner!

Another week has come and gone, and we are getting closer to the midway point of the season. We are also close to the final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4. By the time this comes out, I will probably have watched the last two episodes of the season and will need something new to watch. So feel free to recommend any new shows for me.

Oh, the fourth of July is here as well. Baseball and the fourth go well together. I hope you enjoy Stranger Things (if you watch), have a fun fourth of July weekend, and enjoy my fantasy advice. Time for the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Hitting Planner.

Offenses to Target

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a great offense on paper but it has been a slower month. In June, they are hitting .253/.312/.416 with a .317 wOBA and 106 wRC+.  The power has not been what people thought it would be as evident by the .163 ISO. Of course, losing a guy like Mookie Betts will cause that to happen, but the week sets up nicely for the Dodgers to get back on track.

The week begins with three against the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have played well against the Dodgers this year, but that does not change how their pitching has performed in June. They have a 4.63 ERA, 4.12 FIP, and 4.41 xFIP, and a large reason for the struggles has been the starters who have a 4.98 ERA, 4.50 FIP, and 4.53 xFIP. The bullpen has been slightly better with a 4.03 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and 4.20 xFIP. Another issue with the Rockies is they rank near the bottom of the league in defense with -15 runs prevented and -18 OAA.

The Dodgers will then host the Chicago Cubs for four games out in LA. The Cubs have hit a wall in June and the dog days of a rebuild has begun. They have the worst team ERA at 6.04 with a 4.95 FIP and 4.25 xFIP. The starters have a 6.16 ERA, 5.28 FIP, and 4.56 xFIP while the bullpen has a 5.91 ERA, 4.59 FIP, and 3.92 xFIP. At least the xFIP is promising. Slightly promising. The pitching has been bad this month and this does not pair well with a poor defense. The Cubs have -8 runs prevented and -9 OAA this year.

Notable Players

Cody Bellinger has not been great this year with a .212/.273/.396 10 HR, 34 R, 29 RBI, 9 SB, .292 wOBA, and 89 wRC+. While this is not good, I think he could have a solid week and maybe get hot. He will probably never be the fantasy superstar he was in 2019 again but he could still provide great weeks. He could carry teams in weekly head-to-head matchups.

Chris Taylor's line does not jump off the page, .244/.325/.421 6 HR, 30 R, 27 RBI, 6 SB, .324 wOBA, and 110 wRC+, but it highlights that Taylor is just a solid reliable player for this team. He takes his walks and hits for decent power, which helps in Fantasy Baseball as well. It could be a nice week to roster Taylor.

There was a time people thought Gavin Lux would be a top second baseman in Fantasy Baseball. That has not shown up, but he is having the best season of his career to this point. He is hitting .296/.366/.394 with 2 HR, 39 R, 17 RBI, 5 SB, .337 wOBA, and 119 wRC+. The power is not there, but a high average is always nice for fantasy.

Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians have been one of the best stories this baseball season. A lot of that has to do with the great job by Terry Francona. It also does not hurt that the AL Central is arguably the weakest division in baseball. They get a good week for their hitters as they will face two struggling pitching staffs.

They will travel to Detroit to take on the Tigers who are having a rough go of things. The Tigers were hoping to take another step in their rebuild but it has not happened yet. A big reason for that is the pitching staff that has a 5.20 ERA, 4.25 FIP, and 4.26 xFIP in June. Their starters have been the worst in baseball in June with a 6.22 ERA, 5.18 FIP, and 4.56 xFIP. The bullpen has actually been solid with a 3.87 ERA, 3.04 FIP, and 3.86 xFIP. The one good thing the Tigers have going for them is a solid defense that has 4 runs prevented and 6 OAA. The Guardians will need to take advantage early against a struggling starting rotation.

Cleveland will then travel to Kansas City for a weekend series against another team trying to get to that next stage in the rebuild. The Royals have the 5th worst pitching in June with a 4.95 ERA, 4.40 FIP, and 4.47 xFIP and just like Detroit, it is mainly due to the starters. The starters have a 5.37 ERA, 4.54 FIP, and 4.12 xFIP while the bullpen has a 4.34 ERA, 4.21 FIP, and 4.98 xFIP. Much like the Tigers though, the defense is not to blame with 4 runs prevented and 4 OAA.

Notable Players

Amed Rosario has heated up over his last seven games. Rosario is hitting .486/.526/.686 with 1 HR, 7 R, 6 RBI, 2 SB, .521 wOBA, and 251 wRC+. As he heats up, he approaches weaker pitching and could be in for a good week. He may not hit for much power, but he can provide solid contributions in four categories.

Josh Naylor's breakout season has been important to the Guardians' success in 2022. Naylor is hitting .271/.328/.492 with 9 HR, 22 R, 41 RBI, 1 SB, .350 wOBA, and 131 wRC+. He gets plenty of RBI opportunities behind Jose Ramirez and when Naylor is hitting well, the entire offense gets rolling.

Andres Gimenez has also been playing extremely well this season. He is hitting .306/.351/.488 with 8 HR, 24 R, 35 RBI, 6 SB, .362 wOBA, and 139 wRC+. The high average is nice, but he has provided more power than expected this season. The power speed combo of Gimenez makes him a fantasy stud.

Offenses to Avoid

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last month. A large part of that is due to Rafael Devers being an MVP candidate in the American League. While the big names in the lineup will still be played for fantasy, a tough week of matchups means others should be avoided.

The week will begin with three against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays pitching staff has been phenomenal in June with a 2.96 ERA, 3.99 FIP, 3.79 xFIP. The starters for Tampa have been reliable with a 3.02 ERA, 3.62 FIP, and 3.42 xFIP while the bullpen has even better with a 2.88 ERA, 4.77 FIP, and 4.26 xFIP. The reason the Rays' pitching outperforms their peripherals is due to their great defense which has 4 runs prevented and 4 OAA.

After the Rays leave town, the best team in baseball will take their place for a four-game set. The New York Yankees pitching in the month of June has been remarkable with a 2.96 ERA, 3.64 FIP, and 3.63 xFIP. The starters have been good with a 3.51 ERA, 3.82 FIP, and 3.49 xFIP, but the bullpen has been sensational this month with a 2.05 ERA, 3.34 FIP, and 3.86 xFIP. Their defense is great as well with 4 runs prevented and 5 OAA.

Notable Players

Bobby Dalbec has just not figured it out yet. He is only hitting .205/.287/.330 with 5 HR, 23 R, 18 RBI, 2 SB, .277 wOBA, and 74 wRC+. The Red Sox were hoping for more power, and fantasy players were hoping for much more production.

Trevor Story has shown signs of life as of late but has been extremely streaky this year. Over the last week, he is hitting .240/.286/.360 with 1 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 SB, .250 wOBA, and 55 wRC+. He still provided some fantasy value but he is a scary start against tougher pitching.

San Diego Padres

The Padres are having an impressive season and are up near the top of the NL West but could have a surprisingly tough week ahead of them. It will be a tough test for them, but one they will need to overcome if they want to keep pace with the Dodgers.

The week will begin with the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have not been as good as last year, but have started to figure things out and a large reason for that is their pitching. Their staff has a 3.23 ERA, 4.23 FIP, and 4.11 xFIP in June. The starters have a 3.21 ERA which is much better than their 4.35 FIP and 4.46 xFIP. The bullpen has been the ones carrying the load with a 3.25 ERA, 4.03 FIP, and 3.50 xFIP. Their defense helps them out with 2 runs prevented and 1 OAA.

The week will end with a four-game weekend series with the San Francisco Giants who are trying to climb up the NL West standings themselves. The Giants have a 3.37 ERA, 3.57 FIP, and 3.64 xFIP this month. San Francisco's starters have been great with a 3.43 ERA, 3.09 FIP, and 3.32 xFIP while the bullpen has been reliable with a 3.30 ERA, 4.19 FIP, and 4.06 xFIP.

Notable Players

Eric Hosmer started off great and was giving Padres fans hope for a bounce-back year. However, since the start of June, he is hitting .209/.255/.330 with 2 HR, 10 R, 8 RBI, .253 wOBA, and 63 wRC+. It was a fun start, but that guy appears to be gone.

Jurickson Profar was another who got off to a phenomenal start but has cooled off as the weather heats up. He is still taking his walks which has saved his fantasy value, but since June 12th, he is hitting .226 with just 1 HR. He is getting on base and scoring runs, but that is the only value he is currently providing.

Trent Grisham has taken a massive step back this year. He is hitting .185/.287/.317 with 6 HR, 29 R, 28 RBI, 2 SB, .274 wOBA, and 78 wRC+. It might be time to drop Grisham in redraft if he somehow has not been dropped already.

2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Hitting Planner Waiver Target

Juan Yepez, OF, St Louis Cardinals

Juan Yepez is still massively under-rostered across all fantasy formats. That needs to change. He has been a mainstay in the Cardinals lineup and has played a large role in their offensive output over the last month plus.

Yepez is hitting .284/.328/.512 with 9 HR, 21 R, 24 RBI, .359 wOBA, and 135 wRC+ in 49 games. In a good Cardinals lineup, the opportunity to rack up counting stats will always be there for Yepez. He is getting regular playing time in St Louis and it is time he got regular playing time on fantasy rosters.
