2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 16 Pitching Planner

Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 15 Pitching Planner: Part II.

The 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 15 Pitching Planner is here to help all Fantasy Baseball managers make the tough decisions on which pitchers are deserving of making the team.

This week all 31 two-start pitchers are listed and receive a letter grade between A, B, C, D, or F. This ranking is based on the pitcher's previous statistics, and their upcoming opponent as well. Some teams are not listed because their probable pitchers were TBD at the time of writing. These teams are the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers, and Kansas City Royals.

Below the two-start pitchers, 10 additional pitchers are recommended to be Started, Benched, or Streamed. Be sure to grab those streaming options off the waiver wire this week before the opponent does it first.

Two-Start Pitchers

Here's a quick rundown on the rankings.

A: Aces, start without questioning it.

B: Reliable starter but not as dependable as the grade A's.

C: Middle of the pack players. Usually provide decent Fantasy value and can be started.

D: Risky streamers, not trustworthy, but Fantasy managers can start them if necessary.

F: Leave on the waiver wire, unlikely to provide any Fantasy production.

Start 'em

Michael Kopech (CWS) - at Colorado Rockies

Kopech has struggled with consistency this season. He had a 1.29 ERA in 42 innings in April and May and didn't allow a single home run. In June and July, however, it's been a different story. He's carrying an atrocious 5.49 ERA through 41 innings while allowing 10 home runs.

Some might say this is a bad matchup versus a tough team in hitter-friendly Coors Field, but Fantasy managers should trust his stuff. According to Baseball Savant, Kopech's fastball is in the 97th percentile for spin rate and the 72nd percentile for velocity. Don't expect Kopech to be as great as he was in the first two months, but he will return to pitching well shortly.

Dylan Bundy (MIN) - at Milwaukee Brewers

Bundy is not a strikeout pitcher, but he still manages to get the job done. Fantasy managers roster Bundy in just 18% of leagues but that should change heading into this week.

Bundy has pitched at least five innings in his last six games to the tune of a 3.15 ERA while allowing just one home run. Ride the hot streak and start Bundy against the Brewers this week.

Cal Quantrill (CLE) - at Boston Red Sox

Quantrill has already received his first start after the All-Star game. This came Friday night against the Chicago White Sox and he allowed two earned runs while recording the win.

If Quantrill can put up another start similar to this one, then he will provide enough production to be started in all Fantasy Baseball leagues.

Adam Wainwright (STL) - at Toronto Blue Jays

Wainwright overall this season has played extremely well, however as of late he's been inconsistent. The Cincinnati Reds scored seven runs on the veteran pitcher this Friday. In the two starts before that, he allowed just two runs in 14.1 innings, including a complete game against the Phillies.

Fantasy managers shouldn't fret too much going into his game versus the Blue Jays. Overall, on the season Wainwright has sported a 3.40 ERA and he should continue to be mostly productive moving forward.

Bench 'em

David Peterson (NYM) - vs New York Yankees

Peterson has pitched extremely well this season, but Fantasy managers should bench him this week against the Yankees. The lefty's biggest weakness has been walking too many batters and the Yankees have the most walks in MLB this season. They're a tough team for anybody to face, but especially tough for pitchers struggling with command.

Brady Singer (KC) - at New York Yankees

Singer has had the best season of his short career thus far, but he hasn't faced many tough teams. His hardest games were back-to-back against the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed 10 earned runs in 10 innings with five home runs in those games.

Fantasy managers should expect some of that to show when he has to face the Yankees in their home ballpark.

Kyle Gibson (PHI) - vs Atlanta Braves

Gibson is coming off a game against the Chicago Cubs where he allowed five earned runs in 4.1 innings and received the loss. Heading into this week he is scheduled to face the division rival Atlanta Braves in what will be a much tougher matchup than the Cubs. Gibson is an untrustworthy starter this week and he should remain on the bench.

Braxton Garrett (MIA) - at Cincinnati Reds

Garrett pitched an impressive game on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and looks to do the same against the Reds this week. Garrett has a solid ERA (3.42), an above-average strikeout rate (22.9%), and an excellent walk rate (5.7%). He has also done a good job of limiting hard-hit balls as Baseball Savant ranks him in the 72nd percentile for HardHit%.

Despite not being a top-100 prospect in baseball, Garrett hasn't exactly come out of nowhere to find this success. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft and has some prospect pedigree. Fantasy managers roster the 24-year-old lefty in just 8% of leagues, but this should be higher based on what he's provided this season.

Adrian Sampson (CHC) - vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Sampson is a lesser-known guy who has silently enjoyed some success this season. His 3.34 ERA is solid, and his 5.9% walk rate is exceptional. However, Fantasy managers roster Sampson in just 3% of leagues making him a nice streaming option this week. This could be due to his below-average strikeout rate (17%), or it could be the fact he's started just five games this season.

Whatever the reason was for not streaming him before, Fantasy managers should ignore that and put him in lineups versus the Pirates.

Graham Ashcraft (CIN) - vs Miami Marlins

Ashcraft hasn't had as quite an impressive season as Sampson, but the rookie has proven to be a viable streaming candidate. In 11 games this year he has a 4.70 ERA, 13.3% strikeout rate, and 5% walk rate.

Fantasy managers shouldn't stream Ashcraft against every team he faces, but this week he will be one of the better options as he faces the Marlins. The Marlins currently have the fifth worst OPS (.681), sixth-fewest walks (259), seventh fewest runs (379), and the ninth most strikeouts (807) in MLB.
