2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Drop List

Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Drop List.

This week four players make the drop list. Jazz Chisholm Jr., Jonah Heim, Marcell Ozuna, and Whit Merrifield are this week's drops.

Chisholm makes the drop list as he is still injured and has not begun any baseball activities, meaning he is likely out for the rest of the Fantasy Baseball season. Heim and Merrifield make the list due to their recent stretch of poor performances at the plate. Lastly, Ozuna is a drop after the Atlanta Braves benched him.

Be sure to read the performance review at the bottom to see how last week's drops performed and whether they are still droppable.

Heim has been close to making the drop list for the past two weeks but just hasn't made the cut. Unfortunately for him, it's time to move on from the catcher in Fantasy leagues. His roster percentage is currently 48% placing him 12th among catchers.

Heim is hitless in his last 19 plate appearances and has slashed a paltry .143/.277/.271 since the beginning of August. This production is terrible and Fantasy managers need to move on.

Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B, Miami Marlins

Chisholm made the Week 15 Drop List after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back. At the time he was expected to be out until mid to late September, keeping him out for the rest of the Fantasy Baseball season. Despite this, Fantasy managers still roster Chisholm in 71% of leagues.

According to Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald, Chisholm will be reevaluated next week. Even with this news, it's still unlikely that the Marlin's second baseman will return before the end of the Fantasy Baseball season.

Ozuna hasn't played since Sunday, August 21, providing zero value to Fantasy Baseball managers at this time. Fantasy managers still roster him in 55% of leagues.

Ozuna has made the drop list twice this season, drop him in every league.

Whit Merrifield, 2B/OF, Toronto Blue Jays

Merrifield is in the midst of the worst season of his career. He's slashing .236/.289/.342 and is on pace to finish with the lowest amount of runs and RBI since his rookie season in 2016. Fantasy managers have been dropping him already as his roster percentage is down to 85%. By this time next week, it should be about 75%.

The Kansas City Royals traded Merrifield to the Blue Jays at the beginning of August. Since the trade, he's slashing .216/.286/.275 with a 64 wRC+. Some thought the move to a contender would have helped Merrifield's offense, but it seems to have just hurt him.

Performance Review

Javier Baez, SS, Detroit Tigers

Baez recorded three hits, and two walks for three runs and two RBIs while striking out five times across 17 plate appearances.

It's another below-average week from Baez and he remains on the drop list.

Josh Hader, RP, San Diego Padres

Hader made two appearances this week. The first was a low-leverage moment in the game as the Padres trailed the Royals by three runs in the eighth inning. Hader allowed six runs while recording just one out in this appearance.

In the next appearance, Hader pitched a shutout ninth inning and earned the save. He allowed one hit while striking out one batter.

It's unclear who the closer will be in San Diego for the rest of the season. Hader is still a drop to me because of the uncertainty, but I cannot blame Fantasy managers for wanting to hold him a little longer to be sure.

Taylor Ward, OF, Los Angeles Angels

Ward made three appearances this week. He recorded three hits in 12 plate appearances with one run and two RBIs. Ward also sat out when the team traveled to Toronto to play the Blue Jays. Ward remains on the drop list as it's hard to believe he'll return to his form from April and May.
