2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Pitching Planner

Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Pitching Planner

The 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Pitching Planner is here to help all Fantasy Baseball managers make the tough decisions on which pitchers are deserving of making the team.

This week all 28 two-start pitchers are listed and receive a letter grade between A, B, C, D, or F. This ranking is based on the pitcher's previous statistics, and their upcoming opponent as well.

Below the two-start pitchers, an additional 23 pitchers are recommended to be Started, Benched, or Streamed. Be sure to grab those streaming options off the waiver wire this week before the opponent does it first.

Two-Start Pitchers

Here's a quick rundown of the rankings.

A: Aces, start without questioning it.

B: Reliable starter but not as dependable as the grade A's.

C: Middle-of-the-pack players. Usually, provide decent Fantasy value and can be started.

D: Risky streamers, not trustworthy, but Fantasy managers can start them if necessary.

F: Leave on the waiver wire, unlikely to provide any Fantasy production.

Start 'em

Jake Odorizzi (ATL) - vs Miami Marlins

Fantasy managers roster Odorizzi in just 18% of leagues but heading into this matchup, they should roster him in more. Odorizzi hasn't been great since the Astros dealt him to the Braves, but he has managed to provide some value. This week he's likely to improve on his numbers.

Over the last seven days, the Marlins have the third lowest OPS (.568) and scored the seventh fewest runs. Odorizzi currently has a career-low strikeout rate (18.3%). The Marlins, however, have the third most strikeouts over the past seven days so Odorizzi can find some value here.

Drew Rasmussen (TB) - at Miami Marlins

Rasmussen has pitched extremely well this season by posting a 2.77 ERA, but Fantasy managers roster him in just 82% of leagues. This mark should be at least 90% going into next week based on his performance and matchup. He, similarly, to Odorizzi gets to face a struggling Marlins team and Fantasy managers need to take advantage of it.

Rasmussen racked up 24 strikeouts in his last three starts and this dominance is likely to continue as the Marlins have the third most strikeouts over the past seven days.

Dean Kremer (BAL) - vs Oakland Athletics

I listed Kremer as a bench 'em last week due to having a tough matchup against the Houston Astros. This week, however, Kremer gets to face the Athletics who have the sixth lowest OPS (.578) over the last seven days. On the season, the Athletics have the second lowest OPS (.622) and the second-fewest runs scored. Take the chances on this matchup and start Kremer.

Kremer is still scheduled to face the Astros Saturday, August 27 before his matchup with the Athletics this week. Even if he struggles against the Astros, start him when he faces the Athletics.

Jesus Luzardo (MIA) - vs Tampa Bay Rays

Luzardo is coming off of back-to-back quality starts against the Dodgers and Athletics. This start versus the Rays will be a tough one, however, as the Rays rank sixth in both runs and OPS (.786) over the last seven days.

Despite this tough matchup, Luzardo has done enough this year to earn the trust of Fantasy managers. He has a 3.34 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 10.47 strikeouts per nine innings. Luzardo's roster percentage is just 47% but this should be higher as Fantasy managers head down the stretch, add and start Luzardo in all leagues.

Edward Cabrera (MIA) - at Atlanta Braves

Since his return from the injured list, Cabrera has pitched 22.2 innings and not allowed a single run. Opposing batters have recorded eight hits and 10 walks against Cabrera while striking out 28 times. The rookie is solidifying himself as a top Fantasy option heading into the Fantasy Baseball playoffs. Cabrera has a 53% roster percentage, but this is going to continue rising down the stretch of the season, add him now if you can.

Cabrera has a tough matchup here against the Braves, but he is still a start this week. The Braves are one of the best offenses in baseball, but Cabrera is up to the challenge. He shut out the San Diego Padres, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Oakland Athletics, and the Chicago Cubs in his last four starts.

Cabrera is scheduled to face the Dodgers on Sunday, August 28 before his matchup against the Braves. Even if Cabrera struggles against the Dodgers, he should still be in Fantasy lineups when he faces the Braves.

Jameson Taillon (NYY) - at Los Angeles Angels

Taillon makes the start 'em section for the second straight week. Last week he faced the Oakland Athletics and this week he gets to face the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels have been a bottom-10 offense in almost every category all season long and it's fair to expect it to continue.

Taillon pitched a solid game against the Athletics, and he has a good shot of pitching another one this week.

Lance McCullers Jr. (HOU) - at Los Angeles Angels

Mccullers makes the start 'ems for a similar reason as Taillon, his matchup versus the Angels. The Angles righty has pitched just three games after coming off the injured list earlier this month. In these three games, McCullers has pitched 16 innings and allowed just three runs, all coming against the Atlanta Braves.

Logan Webb (SF) - vs San Diego Padres

Webb has struggled in his two most previous starts, but Fantasy managers should not worry yet. Webb still owns a 3.33 ERA across 159.1 innings this season, keep him in the lineup.

Jordan Montgomery (STL) - vs Chicago Cubs

Embed from Getty Images

Montgomery has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since he joined the Cardinals at the trade deadline. He allowed just one run in 25.2 innings with a 24-3 strikeout to walk ratio. His most recent appearance was his best as he pitched a complete game one-hitter. Start Montgomery in every Fantasy Baseball league moving forward.

Ross Stripling (TOR) - at Pittsburgh Pirates

Stripling has made two starts since his return from the injured list. He allowed just one run in 12.1 innings while striking out 13 batters. Stripling has a roster percentage of 35% but this should be much higher after his impressive outings.

This week he gets to face the Pirates and has a great chance to continue performing well. The Pirates have the fifth worst OPS (.577) and the third-fewest runs scored over the last seven days. Pick Stripling up from the waivers if he's available and start him this week.

Blake Snell (SD) - at San Francisco Giants

Snell allowed six earned runs in just 3.1 innings in his last start. Despite this, Fantasy managers should start Snell with confidence this week. He gets to face the Giants who he has played well against this season. In two games, he's pitched 11.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs. He also struck them out 19 times while walking just four Giants batters.

Keep Snell in the lineup even after his poor performance in his last outing.

Bench 'em

Sean Manaea (SD) - at Los Angeles Dodgers

Embed from Getty Images

Manaea has previously been listed as a start 'em but he hits the bench this week due to his matchup versus the Dodgers. The last time Manaea played the Dodgers he allowed eight earned runs in just four innings. The time before that he allowed six earned runs in 4.1 innings. The Dodgers are a tough matchup for anybody but especially for Manaea, do not trust him this week.

Jack Flaherty (STL) - at Cincinnati Reds

Flaherty is set to make his return from the injured list this week and face the division rival Cincinnati Reds. The Reds have played well offensively over the past seven days as they have the seventh most runs scored.

After the Cardinals placed Flaherty on the injured list, he made the Fantasy Baseball Week 12 Drop List. This was due to his poor performances from him and the uncertainty of his return in 2022. Flaherty can still be a great pitcher, but he needs to prove it before he can start in Fantasy lineups.

Marcus Stroman (CHC) - at Toronto Blue Jays

Stroman is coming off a poor performance where he allowed five runs in five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. Stroman could be in line for another rough start against the Toronto Blue Jays as they've been one of the best offenses this season. Play this one safe and keep Stroman on the bench.

Drew Smyly (CHC) - at St. Louis Cardinals

Smyly is coming off an impressive start against the Cardinals, but he has to face the hottest offense in baseball again this week. Smyly, a left-hander, will have a tough time because the Cardinals have the second-best OPS in baseball against left-handed pitchers (.799). Albert Pujols is also racing to achieve 700 career home runs and he seems to hit a home run against every lefty he faces this month (including Smyly). Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado are both competing for the MVP award as well.

This offense is nothing to mess with, especially as a lefty, keep Smyly on the bench.

Chad Kuhl (COL) - at Atlanta Braves

Embed from Getty Images

Kuhl made his return from the injured list on Friday against the Mets. He allowed five hits and one walk for three earned runs. He also struck out four batters in his five innings of work.

Unfortunately, the tough matchups don't end there as he now has to face the Braves. Some Fantasy managers may be thinking he's worthy of starting after an OK performance against the Mets, but do not trust him when facing these tough teams.

Josiah Gray (WSH) - at New York Mets

The Nationals skipped Gray in his most recent start as they try to manage his innings down the stretch. If Gray makes his next turn in the rotation, it will come against the tough New York Mets. The Mets have been a top-10 offense in almost every offensive category this season. Gray hasn't had a great season either as his ERA currently stands at a poor 4.67.

Stream 'em

Tommy Henry (ARI) - vs Philadelphia Phillies

Embed from Getty Images

Henry has provided solid Fantasy Baseball value throughout his first five starts in the big leagues, but Fantasy managers roster him in just 3% of leagues. Henry will likely start to gain some traction as Fantasy managers realize he is a dependable starter for cheap. While the Phillies are a tough matchup, Henry has handled himself well against the Cardinals and the Rockies at Coors Field recently, proving he has what it takes to compete.

JP Sears (OAK) - at Washington Nationals

I listed Sears as a streaming candidate a week ago and he makes it again this week. The rookie handled himself well against the Yankees and recorded a quality start. Sears is impressing Fantasy managers lately. He pitched 21.1 innings and allowed just six runs in his four starts with the Athletics.

Last week Sears faced a solid Yankees squad, but this week he gets the Washington Nationals. The Nationals rank in the bottom-10 for almost every offensive category making this a great matchup for Sears.

[pickup_prop id="7054"]

Davis Martin (CHW) - vs Minnesota Twins

The Chicago White Sox have called Martin up and he will take over Michael Kopech's (knee) spot in the rotation. Martin will start Saturday, August 27 versus the Arizona Diamondbacks then will likely get another turn through the rotation which will come against the Twins.

Stream Martin due to this favorable matchup. The Twins have the worst OPS (.495), the fifth-fewest runs, and the sixth most strikeouts over the last seven days. Take advantage of this matchup while the Twins are down and stream Martin.

Clarke Schmidt (NYY) - at Tampa Bay Rays

Schmidt is joining the New York Yankees rotation after they placed Nestor Cortes Jr. on the injured list. His first start will come on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics then he will face the Tampa Bay Rays next.

Schmidt has made one start with the Yankees this season which came on June 16 versus the Rays. In that game, he pitched three shutout innings and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five batters. Schmidt has also started a total of eight games in Triple-A this season.

It's unclear how many innings Schmidt will pitch in this game, but he did pitch three innings of relief on August 23 and Fantasy managers can expect him to pitch at least that many during his start.

Bailey Falter (PHI) - at Arizona Diamondbacks

Embed from Getty Images

Falter has pitched an impressive three straight quality starts. Two of these have come against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates but the other was against the mighty New York Mets. The Diamondbacks have been one of the hottest teams in baseball as of late, but Falter has played well enough that he's worth a stream.

Anibal Sanchez (WSH) - vs Oakland Athletics

Rounding out the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Week 20 Pitching Planner is Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez is a risky stream as he's been awful for most of the season. He has a terrible 5.72 ERA and 1.40 WHIP but could be a sneaky streamer when he faces the Athletics.

As mentioned above, the Athletics have the second worst OPS (.622) and have scored the second-fewest runs this season. If you're in desperate need of a pitcher this week, then Sanchez may be the man to go to.
