2022 Fantasy Football A.J. Brown

In a surprise move during the NFL Draft this past weekend, the Tennessee Titans traded All-Pro WR A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles! How big of an impact will this have on the 2022 Fantasy Football season?

This is been a crazy off-season for the NFL. Teams general managers turned into fantasy football managers as we have seen a lot of big-name players on the move. Russell Wilson, Davante Adams, and Tyreek Hill are all going to have new homes at the start of the season. Big names continued to move on draft night. But the most surprising name of them all had to be A.J. Brown.  The former Tennessee Titans wide receiver was shipped off to the Philadelphia Eagles for a first-round and a third-round pick.

The 2022 NFL draft was deep at wide receiver with at least five projected to go in the first round. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the teams that were in the market to upgrade at wide receiver. So I was left scratching my head when their first selection was a defense of tackle.  Little did I know they were working out a deal.

In my humble opinion, The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off the steal of the draft. They also signed Brown to a four-year $100 mil extension!

In this article, we are going to break down how this move affects both the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles. Most importantly we’re gonna address what this means for the 2022 Fantasy Football value of A.J. Brown and the players around him, and those that he left.

The Eagles Side

Let’s take a look at how this trade affects the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles did not give up much to obtain A.J. Brown. The Eagles only had to part with a 2022 first-round and third-round pick and also give him a $100 million contract extension for four years. Both I feel our bargains for a receiver of his caliber. A.J. Brown will not only be the best receiver on the Eagles but he just might be the best receiver in the entire NFC East. In the 2021 season, A.J. Brown finished with 63 receptions 869 yards, and five touchdowns in just 13 games. When you compare those numbers to DeVonta Smith‘s 64 receptions 916 yards and five touchdowns and 17 games, this deal was needed for the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts Completed 265 passes on 432 attempts. 234 of those attempts went to wide receivers. A.J. Brown was on pace for 137 targets in 17 games in 2021. If the Eagles don’t find a way to throw the ball more in 2022 A..J Brown Is going to severely eat into targets for DeVonta Smith. Unfortunately, I don’t think Jalen Hurts is the type of quarterback that can support two fantasy-relevant receivers. So prepare for DeVonta Smith to take a backseat to A.J. Brown. Philadelphia added Zach Pascal in the off-season but he and Jalen Reagor has been rendered useless for fantasy football managers.

The Eagles have a lot of talent on their team but Jalen Hurts can support them all. If Brown has a healthy season then he will be A low-end wide receiver one or a high-end wide receiver two.

The Titans Side

Now it’s time to talk about the team that got rid of their second-best player. Usually, when you see a team make a move like this they are in full rebuild mode. Now that’s just not the case with the Titans. The Titans finished with a 12-5 record in 2021. They were also the overall number one team in the AFC. Before the draft, it looked like they were trying to build on that success by adding Robert Woods after the departure of Julio Jones. This seems more like a financial move due to the fact that A.J. Brown was going into his final year and wanted an extension. Other than paying A.J. Brown they shipped him off to Philadelphia. Then used one of the picks they got from the Eagles and drafted Treylon Burks, a Player that’s been compared to A.J. Brown himself.

Derrick Henry is going to be run into the ground in the next season due to the fact that wide receiver room for the Tennessee Titans is severely lacking. Robert Woods is an older receiver that is coming off a major injury, and their next best receiver is a rookie. Derek Henry was on pace for over 400 touches last season so I expect that will not change this year. Also, look for Austin Hooper to factor into the passing game with the lack of talent in their receiving corps.

The Titans are going to be a one-trick pony on offense this season and I am avoiding everybody except for Derrick Henry in any of my fantasy drafts. I do not see Ryan Tannehill improving on his 531 attempts. I don’t think this receiving corps is going to catch enough balls to make him a relevant fantasy option.

This now puts an end to my 2022 Fantasy Football A.J. Brown Traded to the Philadelphia Eagles initial reaction. I can’t wait to start drafting Best Ball teams and running Fantasy Football mock drafts!
