2022 Fantasy Football Week 5 IDP Waiver Wire

Welcome to my 2022 Fantasy Football Week 5 IDP Waiver Wire!

We are officially a month into the NFL season. After four games players are beginning to establish their fantasy value. Before getting into some potential waiver wire adds for this week let’s check in on some players I have recommended in past articles.

I will be using Fantasy Pros default IDP scoring format when calculating fantasy points scored by a player and Yahoo when discussing a player’s rostered percentage.

T.J. Edwards was coming off a dominant performance against the Washington Commanders. He followed it up with another strong outing in the rain against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With six total tackles and another sack, Edwards is contending for not just a top 10 linebacker spot but a top 10 overall IDP player. The Eagle’s defense is legit and Edwards is a big reason why.

Last week L’Jarius Sneed was only rostered in 14% of leagues according to Yahoo. That number has now doubled to 30%. After getting his third sack and forcing another fumble on Sunday night that number is only going to continue to rise. With the ability to be rostered as either a cornerback or safety, Sneed is providing consistent production as a defensive back. At this point I believe he is a must own player.

The Atlanta Falcons have been a pleasant surprise as a team. At 2-2 and averaging close to 26 points per game they have surpassed my expectations. On the defensive side of the ball Mykal Walker has become a mainstay. Having played 98% or more of the Falcons snaps each week he is quickly becoming a solid IDP option. With 33 total tackles so far, he is well on his way to 100 plus tackles. When I first mentioned him as a potential waiver addition, he was rostered on only 3% of rosters. That number is now up 29%.

Frankie Luvu, LB, Carolina Panthers: 7% Rostered

Week 4 Stats: 11 TOT, 1 TFL, 1 Pass Defended, 1 INT, 1 TD

For the past two weeks I have mentioned Frankie Luvu as a potential waiver wire option. After a monster week four performance it is time to give him his credit. Coming into this week Luvu was ranked as the 13th overall linebacker on Fantasy Pros. He will likely be pushing for a top five spot now and in my opinion should be a priority waiver wire add.

Luvu is stuffing the stat sheet with 32 total tackles, six tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a pick-six and two passes defended. Playing 93.2% of the Panthers defensive snaps guarantees Luvu plenty of volume. The Panthers offense has been anemic this year meaning the defense is forced to stay on the field. If he keeps seeing close to 70 snaps a game Luvu has elite upside. After this week expect that 7% rostered percentage to climb substantially.

Rashan Gary, LB, Green Bay Packers: 3% Rostered

Week 4 Stats: 7 TOT, 2 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery

Rashan Gary is a bit of a gamble when it comes to the waiver wire. On one hand he is tied for 5th in sacks with five on the year. He has been a force rushing the passer and also has three tackles for a loss as well. Gary is living in opposing teams’ backfields.

On the other hand, it could be a risk investing in a player who is only averaging 76% of snaps and only has 19 total tackles on the season. After a strong showing against New England the hope is that he continues to trend upwards. If he can manage six or seven tackles a game, Gary will likely be a boom or bust IDP option. With bye weeks starting to become a factor he would be a great plug and play option. Hopefully the one or two weeks you need him he can produce a few sacks.
