2022 NFL Mock Draft: New Year’s Edition

The Super Bowl is set and we have an updated 2022 NFL Mock Draft!

As we enter Week 17 in the NFL, the top of the 2022 NFL Draft order continues to get shuffled. We are using Tankathon to determine our mock draft order. The last time we published a 2022 NFL Mock Draft we shared our top 20 picks. This time we give you a full first round!

We are still firm believers that the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans will pass on selecting a quarterback with their first pick.

You could argue that the Detroit Lions need a Franchise QB and that Jared Goff is just a bridge. But that team is so far from being ready to compete and this quarterback class does not appear to feature “that guy.”

Davis Mills has done a good enough job in a year that has been anything but normal for the 2021 third-round pick.

What will the Houston Texans do with Deshaun Watson this offseason? We imagine they are more likely to target the 2023 QB draft class instead of this current QB class.

We still don’t have a clear enough picture yet to tie Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh), Sam Howell (North Carolina) or Malik Willis (Liberty) to an NFL franchise just yet. However, it is quite possible that all four guys go in the first round.

2022 NFL Mock Draft: New Year’s Edition

Jon’s Thoughts – @JPW2542

• I think Aidan Hutchinson will only help his stock against Georgia and maybe in the College Football Championship game, solidifying his spot at the top.
• The New York Jets would be smart to address the secondary with two studs at the top of the draft, given the division they play in.
• No one really knows how the QBs will fall, and a lot will depend on how the off season dominos falls. With guys like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson all being available, we could see QB falls in the draft.
• Overall I think protecting your QB will be a theme in this draft. Teams like the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers will all try to address the OL to help protect their franchise QB

Keith Thoughts – @WeTlkFntsySprts

• If the Jacksonville Jaguars hold onto the top pick, I believe they must draft Evan Neal, over Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux, to protect Trevor Lawrence.
• Since the beginning of our Mock Draft series, I have not been a believer in this QB draft class. That being said I have grown to like Matt Corral and Kenny Pickett. The jury is still out there on Malik Willis who had a nice showing in the LendingTree Bowl to finish his career at Liberty. I do not believe Sam Howell is a starting NFL QB at this point.
• I get the feeling we are going to see a lot of offensive linemen selected in the first round, along with wide receivers and players in the secondary. The order in which the players are ranked is still very unclear at each position.
• The Philadelphia Eagles have set themselves up really nicely to fill a lot of holes with their three first-round picks and yes, Jalen Hurts is their Franchise QB. They need to make sure that along with adding two defensive players they give Hurts another target.
• The Miami Dolphins also have some flexibility in the first round but must protect Tua Tagovailoa while also providing him with another weapon to go along with Jaylen Waddle.
• The backend of the first round is always a crapshoot and lots of draft-day trade will take place but I am very interested to see what direction the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers go with their first-round picks.
