2021-22 Fantasy Basketball Division Preview - Atlantic

In the 2023–24 Fantasy Basketball Atlantic Division Preview, we will look at the five teams from the division, starting with the Boston Celtics who made major changes to their roster to facilitate another run at a championship.

The team handily won the division but lost in the Eastern Conference finals last season. They look to repeat and improve upon this upcoming season, but the shakeup represents a risk-reward gamble for fans and fantasy owners alike.

Recap Of The Division - Little Surprise

The Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team trade that included moving longtime star Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies. Boston Supermax extended Jaylen Brown while signing and trading Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks. The big three of Porzingod, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown look to tackle the duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard in the east.

The Philadelphia 76ers have a dark cloud over their heads in the form of James Harden. As the Dame trade is underway, Harden should look to be moved by the start of training camp. Philly added Mo Bamba in the offseason but again hopes for more assets when Harden is moved.

The New York Knicks look to improve on their success from last season. Jalen Brunson is poised to lead the Knicks into the future and hopefully deep into the playoffs. New York resigns Josh Hart and signs Donte DiVincenzo to add to their already deep guard position. Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson will be called upon as the only real forwards that can put up stats.

Recap Of The Division - The Unpredictable

The Brooklyn Nets are the most interesting team in this division due to the unpredictable nature of how they might do this season. They resigned Cameron Johnson, whom they received from the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade. Brooklyn will rely on Mikal Bridges to continue his success alongside Spencer Dinwiddie.

The biggest question mark is Ben Simmons, who states he is ready for redemption—but we’ve heard this many times before. Brooklyn should really be going for the tank, but I can see this gritty team going far this season.

My Toronto Raptors are the funky team in this division. They let Fred VanVleet walk but signed Dennis Schroder to fill the gap—I mean, did you see him in FIBA? Jakob Poeltl also resigned, and the Raptors will rely heavily on their trio of Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, and OG Anunoby to lead. The Raptors goals are to win, regardless of what others believe their potential will be this season.

Who's new in the Division?

NBA Draft

The newcomers to the Atlantic Division probably won’t do much besides Gradey Dick. Dick will take on a role similar to Gary Trent Jr. in the form of three-point shooting. Dick can develop as a versatile wing, which will help spread the floor for the raptors.

Impact Free Agents

  • Philadelphia 76ers – Mo Bamba
  • New York Knicks – Donte DiVincenzo
  • Toronto Raptors – Dennis Schroder

Out of this bunch, Dennis Schroder should have the most opportunity on the Raptors with Freddie gone. Schroder has proven time and time again that he can put up points when needed, and the Raptors usually have successful point guard seasons.

Donte DiVincenzo’s opportunity will depend on how Tom Thibodeau is feeling that day. There are quite a few guards on the team, and only injuries can really guarantee any backup guard any prospect.

Mo Bamba could do well as a Joel Embiid backup. Bamba has proven he is efficient, with low minutes providing energy and impact off the bench. The question is: will Nick Nurse utilize the big man at the beginning or end of the season?

Boston Celtics – Kristaps Porzingis

This is the only trade that matters in this division. Porzingis did well in Washington last season, and Boston is hoping that as the third option, he can continue his success. He will have plenty of opportunity to shine as Jayson Tatum continues his Hall of Fame career. Don’t assume his stats might go down because his quality will greatly improve under Boston’s system.
