2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Weekly Planner

What a week! We saw 2 historic performances, a blind-sighted firing, and another trade go down. All covered in the 2023–24 Fantasy Basketball Week 15 Planner!

Joel Embiid's 70-point performance on Monday night helped the Philadelphia 76ers defeat the San Antonio Spurs 133-123. With 1:41 remaining, he made a layup to surpass Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain's 76ers record of 68 points, which was set on December 16, 1967.

Shortly thereafter, in Friday night's 148-143 (Dallas) victory over the Atlanta Hawks, Luka Doncic set a team record with 73 points, which is only topped by Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant for the fourth-most points in NBA history.

In other contender news, Adrian Griffin, who had one of the best records in the NBA halfway through his rookie head-coaching season, was sacked by the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday after just 43 games. The Bucks then made the move almost immediately to hire Doc Rivers.

Even with their stellar record, the Bucks have had moments of weakness, especially defensively. They were ranked fourth on defense in the previous season and now rank 22nd. They have recently conceded 135 and 113 points in back-to-back games against the Detroit Pistons.

The team that beat the Bucks in the first round, the Miami Heat, acquired veteran guard Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets on January 23 in exchange for six-time All-Star Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round selection.

Streamer Consideration

With the trade deadline and All-Star break approaching, the NBA regular season is already halfway over. There is something in this week's waiver wire post for everyone, from those in deeper leagues to those in shallower ones, and from those looking for streaming alternatives to those with longer-term plans. But, like I did last week, I've focused in particular on players—many of them rookies—to think about adding for the second half of the season.

2023–24 Fantasy Basketball Week 15 Planner

Ayo Dosunmu, Chicago Bulls (SG)

In the six games that he has scored in double digits, Dosunmu has averaged 15.3 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 boards, 1.5 threes, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 28.0 minutes. Although he can't maintain his current shooting percentages (59.6% FG, 50.0% 3PT, and 93.8% FT), he is known for his versatility in terms of his stat profile. Due to his extensive skill set on both ends, he can be easily positioned to play a variety of positions and get lots of playing time. Dosunmu is therefore a good pick in deep leagues across all formats, though he may prove useful in all but the shallowest leagues in the immediate future.

Amen Thompson, Houston Rockets (SG, SF)

For Amen to routinely have a statistically significant impact, Houston might need to lose the playoff race or suffer multiple injuries. Nevertheless, he has shown sparks, particularly when given a respectable amount of playing time. In 19.8 minutes, Thompson has averaged 9.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.8 blocks over the past six games. He doesn't yet have a lot of outside shooting ability like his brother, but he contributes greatly on defense. As a passer, he has also demonstrated excellent vision and execution. Thompson ought to be at the top of your shortlist if you have a roster place available to dedicate to stashing a high-upside player.

Jabari Walker, Portland Trail Blazers (SF, PF)

For over a month now, Walker has been performing well. In 14.1 minutes a game over the past 14 games, the rookie forward has averaged 11.1 points (51.5% FG, 36.7% 3PT, 76.9% FT), 8.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.8 threes. Though in terms of metrics, he's not really adding much beyond points and boards, his offensive efficiency has been impressive. Walker will almost probably see plenty of playing time for the rest of the season given Portland's standings. He should therefore be included in all forms save the most basic ones.
