2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Weekly Planner

It's deadline time! With so many rumored names, The 2023–24 Fantasy Basketball Week 16 Planner explores what that might mean for your team!

Now that trade deadline week has arrived, teams have until 3 PM Eastern on February 8 to complete those trades. This week tends to have fantasy managers modify even more on the fly than usual, even though there's always the buyout market to take into account after the deadline.

Additionally, since this is Super Bowl week, Week 16 will end with a short two-game schedule. Let's examine the Week 16 schedule synopsis and a few of its main plot points.

Speaking of main plot points, Joel Embiid is assessing his options for treatment after receiving a diagnosis of a misplaced flap in his left meniscus—the 70-point performance must have taken too much out of him. Treatment for Embiid's injury will depend on its position and severity, but he will be sidelined until a plan of action is developed.

Further to this injury, Zach LaVine will have surgery on his right foot that will end his season, the Bulls announced on Saturday. The Bulls anticipate LaVine to miss four to six months of action, so he should be back in time for training camp in advance of the 2024–2025 campaign.

This could be the make-or-break week for most fantasy owners, so it is crucial to pay attention all week, and it starts with this planner!

Deadline Week 16 Consideration

Joel Embiid Recovery

Embiid will miss time in either treatment scenario; the only question is how much. Paul Reed is still the fantasy pick going forward, with Mo Bamba serving as the backup center. The unanswered question, though, is how the Philadelphia 76ers will approach the trade deadline in light of Embiid's injury.

Daryl Morey and his team will probably take a more aggressive approach to dealing with Embiid's injury, which will affect the fantasy values of every player in the rotation starting in Week 16 and beyond. It is hard to say what moves the 76ers will make, as they may have to trade some of their less important players for what makes sense to Morey in this situation.

Thursday's 9-game schedule

If fantasy managers can react quickly enough to their leagues' waiver wires, trade deadline day should be enjoyable. A number of players may be excluded because of pending deals when eighteen teams compete that evening.

The following teams will compete Thursday: Detroit Pistons, LA Lakers, Memphis Grizzles, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and Utah Jazz; players on these teams have been the focus of trade rumors. Players with proven production histories who might be valuable assets to a playoff-bound club include Alec Burks, Jordan Clarkson, Jerami Grant, Malcolm Brogdon, and Kelly Olynyk.

Ayo Dosunmu, SG, Chicago Bulls

The trade rumors about Zach LaVine will stop now that he is having surgery on his right foot, which will end his season. However, how will this news affect Alex Caruso's and DeMar DeRozan's chances of being traded? One may argue that the Bulls would do better to move rotation guys for extra draft capital than to try to get the ninth or tenth spot in the East.

In terms of fantasy impact, not much is altered. Even though the Bulls only play three games in Week 16, Dosunmu, who recently moved into the starting lineup due to Patrick Williams joining LaVine on the sideline, is worth committing to. For the stretch run following the All-Star break, youngster Julian Phillips is a player to keep an eye on if the Bulls decide to trade other rotation players.
