October 10, 2023 - October 13, 2023

Top Targets

Dawson Mercer, Center/Right Wing, New Jersey Devils (73% Rostered)

Some say that availability is the best ability, and Dawson Mercer can agree with that. The 21-year-old hasn't missed a game since debuting with the Devils, and he hopes that this trend continues through the new season.

Mercer is coming off of a season where he recorded 27 goals and 29 assists in just his second year. Through the Devils' preseason, he has been working alongside the likes of Timo Meier and Nico Hischier who will certainly help the young player improve on the offensive end of the ice.

New Jersey is expected to have another great season this year, and it starts with two winnable games against the Red Wings and Coyotes. You can expect the offense to start the year strong, and Mercer will likely play his way onto the scoresheet.

Filip Forsberg, Left Wing, Nashville Predators (69% Rostered)

After having an impressive season halted by an upper-body injury, Filip Forsberg is expected to play a huge part in Nashville's success this upcoming season. How much can you really expect from the franchise's leading goal scorer?

The Nashville Predators made a few changes during the offseason, including the addition of Ryan O'Reilly who will work as the team's first line center. The duo is expected to be joined by Juuso Parssinen on the wing, who played in 45 games recording 25 points (six goals and 19 assists).

Forsberg has always had a knack for finding the back of the net, and he should have no problem doing it following the injury. Ryan O'Reilly is certainly fond of dishing the puck, as he has hit the 30-assist plateau ten times throughout his career.

He may be slept on in a lot of fantasy drafts due to the lack of action last season, but I highly recommend keeping an eye on him as you get drafting.

Ivan Barbashev, Center/Left Wing, Vegas Golden Knights (45% Rostered)

Last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs may have been the coming-out party of Ivan Barbashev, and he is looking to continue the dominance into the 2023-2024 season.

Barbashev recently signed a 5-year extension with the Knights, following his 18-point performance (seven goals and 11 assists) over last season's 22-game cup run. Now he is a mainstay on the team's top line after finding great chemistry with Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault. During the 22-game stretch, the trio was on the ice for 16 of the team's goals.

Expect another jump in production for the 27-year-old, who should be in a prime position to match, or pass, his career high in points (60) that he recorded in his last full season in St. Louis.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Chicago Blackhawks

Is there a team that will be watched more to start the season than the Chicago Blackhawks? If you think there will be, then you are wrong!

After a couple of seasons near the bottom of the standings, the Hawks have high hopes thanks in part to their latest first-round pick. 18-year-old Connor Bedard will be in the opening night lineup, and the franchise is hoping that the generational talent will be enough to help the franchise get back to its winning ways. Can this addition to the franchise be enough to spark the rest of the team?

The Blackhawks are one of just a handful of teams that have two games this week as opposed to one, which will instantly give them a leg up when searching for fantasy hockey options. We'll see Chicago traveling to both Pittsburgh and Boston, where they may be able to get an early jump on two teams that may need some time to figure things out.

Bedard has been working in the preseason alongside Ryan Donato and former league MVP Taylor Hall. Look for this line to carry a lot of the offense for the team, especially if Bedard finds immediate comfort in his jump to the NHL. The second line of Andreas Athanasiou, Lukas Reichel, and Philipp Kurashev have a strong impact on the offensive end of the ice and add some fantasy value.
