2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 11 Weekly Planner

Merry Christmas everybody! We have hit the holiday break, and teams will be out of action for a couple of days. We'll still have a lot of hockey to cover, so let's talk about it in the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Weekly Planner.

The Holiday Roster Freeze is now in effect and will remain so through 12:01 AM on December 28th. This means that no roster transactions can take place through the holiday season, and players do not have to worry about being moved so they can enjoy their well-deserved time off. Along with the freeze, all teams will be off from the 24th, 25th, and 26th.

Once the league returns to action on the 27th, it's full throttle again! 27 teams will be playing three games over the five days to finish out 2023. This will include 21 different teams having a back-to-back before the new year.

It is a lot of hockey to close out the year, so let's get into it. Here is the holiday edition of the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Weekly Planner.

2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Weekly Planner

December 25, 2023 – December 31, 2023

Top Targets

Drake Batherson, Left Wing/Right Wing, Ottawa Senators (75% Rostered)

The Ottawa Senators entered this season with high expectations. It looked as if the rebuild was behind them, and it was finally time to go for it. Well, that has failed so far as the team sits last in the Atlantic Division. At least the play of someone like Drake Batherson allows their fans to watch with excitement.

Batherson enters the new week in second on the team in goals (11) as well as second on the team in points (25) thanks to a strong December. The 25-year-old registered a point in nine of the 11 games during the month, tallying five goals and eight assists up to today.

He'll continue to get a lot of minutes on the team's top line alongside Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk. Batherson is also heavily featured on the top powerplay unit, where he has found seven of his points.

Gabriel Vilardi, Center/Right Wing, Winnipeg Jets (57% Rostered)

He may have been an unexpected piece of the blockbuster Pierre-Luc Dubois trade this summer, but Gabriel Vilardi has quickly found success in his new home of Winnipeg.

The season got off to a rocky start with Vilardi missing 18 of the first 21 games due to an injury. He has since recovered and has become a key piece of a Jets' team that is exceeding all expectations. Vilardi is riding a hot streak where he has recorded six goals and six assists over his past five games.

Vilardi has also been able to build great chemistry with a new line. Following the injury to star player Kyle Connor, the first line of Vilardi, Mark Scheifele, and Nikolaj Ehlers was created. The trio has played together for 75 minutes, and are outshooting opponents 58-30 and outscoring them 11-2.

If your fantasy team needs a jump, you should probably look for the hottest player on the best line in hockey right now.

Kirill Marchenko, Right Wing, Columbus Blue Jackets (22% Rostered)

A newly formed line of young Russian players has formed in Columbus, and they are doing what they can to bring offense to a struggling Blue Jackets team. The line, featuring Dmitri Voronkov and Yegor Chinakhov, is led by Kirill Marchenko.

Marchenko, who is in his second season, has been able to get comfortable playing with his countrymen and it has surely impacted the game of all three players. The Jackets likely won't be splitting the trio up anytime soon as they are outscoring opponents 7-2 while on the ice together.

Marchenko is currently the team leader in goals (13) and second on the team in points (21). Having only played 32 games this year, he is just four points away from his rookie-year total while already passing last year's assist number. Expect him to continue scoring at this pace, and finish the year as the team's leading scorer.

Injury Alerts

Leo Carlsson, Center, Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks franchise will be holding their breath as they wait for further updates on their future star. Leo Carlsson exited Thursday's game after an awkward collision with MacKenzie Weegar where Weegar fell on Carlsson's leg.

It's been a productive start to the career of the 2nd overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, registering eight goals and seven assists over his first 23 games. Now, the foreseeable future is in question as he exited Thursday's game during the third period. We should hear more about the 18-year-old in the next couple of days.

Mats Zuccarello, Right Wing, Minnesota Wild

It may have started as a late scratch on Monday night, but the injury to Mats Zuccarello seems to be a lot worse than expected. The 36-year-old is now considered week-to-week and has been placed on injured reserve.

Zuccarello remains a key contributor to the Wild's offense, providing six goals and 22 assists in 28 games so far this season. New head coach John Hynes will need to find a short-term replacement for Zuc, who consistently plays top-six minutes along with first-line powerplay.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Dallas Stars

The season-long battle between the Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars, and Colorado Avalanche in the Central Divison has been incredible. It should remain that way throughout the rest of the season. But could this week see one team slip away from the pack? Dallas sure hopes so.

Coming out of the Christmas break, the Stars will hit the road to face a struggling St. Louis Blues team that has recently fired their head coach. Dallas has won four of the last five matchups against St. Louis and is in a position to take them down again. They'll then travel home for two straight home games against the Chicago Blackhawks. Bedard-mania is still running wild in the Windy City, but that seems to be all Chicago has right now.

The lines of Jason Robertson-Joe Pavelski-Roope Hintz and Mason Marchment-Tyler Seguin-Matt Duchene may create the best top-six forward group in the league right now, as well. Look for this group to have a heavy impact on what happens during this three-game stretch.
